AIM

We aim to provide the first dedicated assessment of the Abyssinian Ground-hornbill population status and trends across its range, with initial targeted local research in Ghana to understand aspects of its cultural significance and biology. We will help enable the development of the species' first global conservation action plan and assess the effectiveness of using monitoring and field methods established for Southern Ground-hornbill research as tools to understand Northern Ground-hornbills. Our research team from South Africa and Ghana is a collaboration that aims to improve the conservation status of Abyssinian Ground-hornbills across their range.
