I joined MIT CRC in the fall of 2023. Our team seeks to engage in hands-on engineering learning opportunities through the design and construction of combat robots. CRC competes in various leagues including NHRL (National Havoc Robotics League) and Discovery Channel's "BattleBots" in 3lb, 12lb, 30lb, and 250lb weight classes.
Orange Crush is a 3lb combat robot designed for the fall 2023 MIT CRC House Battle. This design features:
A "drisk" spinner (design of a vertical disk spinner with placement of a drum spinner) powered via timing belt by a brushless motor
Two drive wheels on DC motors
Sturdy chassis built from bent 1/16" aluminum sheet
1/8" acrylic top and bottom plates
Defensive TPU wedges to get underneath our opponent
Bent 1/8" aluminum "horns" to allow inverted driving
I worked on a subteam of 4 other students to design, construct, and wire this robot. My specific contributions included:
CAD design of chassis, drivetrain, and weapon drivetrain
Fabrication of sheet metal chassis components using a waterjet and finger brake
Fabrication of acrylic top and bottom plates using a laser cutter
Electronics layout, wiring, soldering
