It was in 1998, a few days after Professor Amartya Sen received the Nobel Prize in economics for his pioneering work on Social Choice Theory, I was crossing the road holding Ma's (mother's) hand to board the school bus. The young curious child asked Ma, "What is economics?" Ma replied, "Economics is a subject about money". My inquisitive mind became impatient to dig into the subject, especially after knowing that one of my cousins also studied Economics. The seed of Economics was instilled in me from then. I was in 4th standard. As I grew older, from 9th and 10th standard, my desire to know Economics augmented, and found that it is beyond money. Economics is a confluence of social aspects and navigates us to find solutions to make society better. I decided to pursue economics.
