Gorilla glass is a thin, lightweight glass type that’s also incredibly tough and scratch-resistant. It is today’s preferred glass for the screens of most smartphones, laptops, LED computer monitors, and TV sets. It is manufactured by a company called Corning, and while other companies make similar glass, it is today’s most popular.
Interestingly, Corning is prohibited from disclosing the names of all products that use its gorilla glass technology. But we can more or less find out which ones, based on various brands’ announcement of features and specifications for their devices. Among the more familiar companies that use Corning’s patent glass are Sony (for its Bravia TV set line), Dell, and Samsung.
Based on the standard Vickers hardness score, gorilla glass has a rating of 622-701. Gorilla glass is similar in strength to manufactured sapphire, but industries everywhere prefer gorilla glass since it’s a lot less expensive to manufacture. Moreover, gorilla glass is good for the environment as it’s RoHS-compliant and fully recyclable.
One of the wonders of components technology in the new millennium, the gorilla glass is truly a cutting-edge product. That is, it makes the cut convincingly, leading the screen glass race for modern electronic devices with barely any literal scratch.
