I am focusing on Community Schools during my internship with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) national office.
During my time at Masterman, I collaborated closely with my mentor teacher and faculty to refine instructional strategies and align curriculum goals. I designed and implemented engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans for 7th-grade World History, reaching approximately 70 students across two classes. To enhance student engagement, I incorporated technology and multimedia tools, including interactive lessons and online resources. I also prioritized differentiated instruction to meet the diverse learning styles, abilities, and interests of all students, fostering an accessible and equitable classroom environment.
During my fieldwork placement at Olney High School, I worked with an 11th-grade History teacher. The curriculum was based on United States History. I observed instructional practices and taught lessons based on the content and Pennsylvania state standards. The classroom also gave me experience with Special Education students at different reading levels.
During my fieldwork placement at John B. Stetson Middle School, I assisted the 8th-grade History teacher. I observed instructional practices, which included daily classroom routines and history lessons, from the supervising teacher. I taught a lesson to engage students in historical analysis based on the United States History curriculum and Pennsylvania state standards. The classroom also gave me experience with English Language Learner students at different reading levels.
As a Teacher's Assistant at Morris County School of Technology, I worked with the freshman world history class. I created worksheets, taught lessons, and assisted with various classroom tasks. I worked with three classes, each with approximately 20 students, and balanced a hybrid classroom model with my supervisor.
During my hybrid internship with Puentes de Salud I had the opportunity to assist in administrative tasks related to program coordination, such as organizing resources, recruitment and maintaining participant records. I also participated in curriculum development and lesson planning to assist the Education Director in planning for future ESL extension programs.
During my online fieldwork experience with the Stenton Museum I had the opportunity take their newly digitized catalog and create interactive lessons for grades third through seventh. Additionally, I researched interactive ideas for the museum to use, both in person and in virtual visits to the space.
During my hybrid internship at Girls Inc. Philadelphia, I was able to work with ages 13-17 foster leadership and advocacy skills via Zoom and in-person lessons. I had to opportunity to accompany the girls on a field trip during their sessions too.
During my remote internship (due to COVID-19), I created several PowerPoint lessons on Contemporary Art History to guide students in improving their English language skills. The entire lesson was taught in English; however, my basic Italian skills were used to help with communication.
Through a four-week program in Thane, I taught basic English skills to a group of young boys. I used various techniques, such as games, puzzles, acting, and drawing, to engage them in lessons based on a provided curriculum.
