Also known as Black English or Ebonics, African American Vernacular English (AAVE) serves as an umbrella term that describes the various speeches utilized by African American communities (Luu). It does not merely refer to the language, but it reveals the creativity of the profound culture of Black people. Woven into their words, speeches, and expressions, AAVE showcases the deep linguistic history that tells a story of their past and their continuous progress in society. Black English has been a linguistic and cultural force in the present time. Unbeknownst to some, their influence is observable in art, music, poetry, and social media. For instance, it is evident how rap artists, such as Drake and Aminé, typically incorporate AAVE in the lyrics of their songs. In addition to this, a lot of TikTok expressions, including "spill the tea," "woke," and "shade," originate from Black people. Unfortunately, people misuse it due to language appropriation.
The infographic that has been designed on the left aims to provide an overview of the possible advantages and disadvantages of using AAVE.
