Music is a fundamental pillar of Aquinas American School. Starting from kindergarten and continuing through lower school, students have curricular music lessons twice a week. 
This curricular content offers students the opportunity for individual exploration as well as collaborative achievements. The 
program’s goal is to develop a love and respect for musical culture so that it becomes a permanent and 
enjoyable part of students’ lives. Students will learn to appreciate different genres of music such as jazz, 
classical, folk, blues and mass hymns. Teachers will introduce basic theoretical 
knowledge including solfège, rhythms, scales, dynamics, tempo, and simple notation for composition and sight-reading. 
Incorporating instrumental and vocal ensemble training, children will use musical instruments such as 
piano/keyboards, percussion instruments, guitar/ukelele, recorders and xylophones to play simple rhythms and melodies. Students will be exposed 
to composers and to music history and become familiar with an ever wider range of great artists and 
acknowledged masterworks. Teachers will encourage their students to communicate their ideas, feelings, and 
judgments to others with special emphasis on creativity and active participation. Teachers will also encourage 
all students to become more involved with the school community by joining Music Academy or the
