Developed the real-time proportional motion control system for the large-scale rotary and linear stages of the SALT Mirror Cleaning System, including hardware definition, configuration and embedded programming of the FieldPoint automation controller and Siemens motor drives, and assembly and wiring of electrical components. Developed the calibration routine for the two rotary positioning feedback potentiometers that are used in the closed-loop control system.
Key features of the system are Automatic Crash Avoidance and Optimised Cleaning Pattern algorithms using predefined quadrants.
