The objective of the Erg IO ecosystem is to provide comfort to individuals who may work with computers in their day to day lives, whether it be for career, hobby, or any reason in between, whether they experience pain due to pre-existing conditions or if they desire to prevent conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
In the current 'technology era,' computers are essential in nearly all day to day life. One drawback however is the development of carpal tunnel syndrome and other hand related issues in those who use computers much more than average. This issue is increased by the use of poorly designed keyboards and mice, which not only make these issues worse but can be uncomfortable to use for people without these issues.
This project is starting out as an ergonomic keyboard, but will evolve into a complete ecosystem, with software to modify the functions and features of each device. The products will function as normal HIDs however additional functionality will be available through the software, such as macros, scripts, and computer commands.
We expect to allow users to control how much their devices help them, by allowing users to adjust just about everything available from their devices. This entails changing key functions, changing angle and height from desk, and integrating features from more feature-rich but ergonomically-bad devices. Additionally, the ergonomic designs will be geared towards users moving their hands and fingers less and using less pressure to engage all buttons. We presume that by assigning the most used characters to the easiest to reach switch locations, we can get users to achieve the same typing speed they would have on traditional keyboards.
Hardware development will likely entail 3D printing, testing PCB designs, testing different types of switches, and different profiles of keycaps to ensure the most comfort and ease of use.
Software development will include no special software or services other than C++ and some higher level languages.
