Week 7 (Day 13)

Today's focus was creativity, which was reinforced by several activities that promoted self-expression and involvement in all subject areas. According to EYLF Outcome 4, creativity is essential to children's learning because it promotes self-assurance, problem-solving skills, and exploration (Department of Education, 2022). An engaging "Happy Feet" exercise kicked off the day, with a singing and dancing session led by an educator from an outside organisation. The children were very into it as they picked up new dance moves and made imaginative movements to lively music. This activity improved the learning environment and adhered to NQS Element 1.2.1, which emphasises inclusive and engaging learning opportunities, by promoting social engagement, self-expression, and physical coordination (Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority [ACECQA], 2022).

After lunch, I read a story to the group called Miss Spider's Tea Party. The children were engaged with the narrative and excitedly discussed empathy and inclusivity. This activity supported the development of literacy while encouraging storytelling and creative thinking, which is in line with EYLF Outcome 5.

During afternoon outdoor play, children engaged in a "Nature Art" activity where they collected natural materials such as leaves and flowers to create their own creations. This hands-on activity fostered artistic expression and sensory exploration, demonstrating how outdoor environments foster creativity. Looking back on the day, I could see how these activities integrated creativity in the social, cognitive, and physical domains to foster holistic growth. More opportunities for imaginative, flexible learning that accommodate children's diverse interests and developmental needs are something I hope to implement in the future (Department of Education, 2022).
