Inspired by the interest in the Viennese school system and the discussion at the time about educational reform in Austria, City University of New York Professor, Dr. Alfred S. Posamentier was honored to be appointed a Fulbright Visiting Professor at the University of Vienna. This opportunity led him to the Vienna City School Board and to the then Executive President, Professor Hans Matzenauer, whereupon common interests in new forms and possibilities for educational enrichment via teacher training were conceived and developed. A cooperation was established and intensified after the return visit to by Professor New York in 1992.

The establishment of a non-profit association or a bilateral cooperation was officially initiated: the AUSTRIAN-AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL COOPERATION ASSOCIATION was born.
