Laznes Binch (Ilya Fomin) - A digital artist
Ilya Laznes Binch (Ilia Fomin) creates digital abstract visual works that explore reimagined and reassembled forms of perception in the digital era. His artistic pseudonym, a distorted version of "business lunch," symbolizes reality in constant flux, where individual elements shift within a larger equation, altering perception. His work embodies the fluidity of forms and meanings, reflecting a world in perpetual motion.
Since 1998, Laznes Binch has participated in exhibitions, performances, and festivals, developing his artistic language through early digital tools. Raised in the studio of a classical painter, he embraced digital media as an alternative path, using software like Photoshop and 3DS Max to break from traditional methods. His practice engages with memory as a dynamic, ever-evolving continuum, where subjective and collective interpretations intertwine. Like the fantastical flower from The Mystery of the Third Planet, his art captures fleeting moments of perception, unraveling an imaginary sequence of states.
His visual language is rooted in digital media, working with found materials and fragments of the endless information flow that now shapes collective memory. He employs collage, layering, and deconstruction to explore fragmented narratives, questioning the role of digitality in shaping our perception of time and reality. As he explains, “Each image is dated, transforming a captured moment into an abstract form, an emotional imprint.” His compositions, rich in color, texture, and complexity, do not offer definitive answers but invite viewers to interpret and engage with his art on a personal level.
Laznes Binch’s recent exhibitions include Messages from Russia (2020, Belroy’s Bijou Space, Antwerp), Color vs. Black & White (2024, Ruarts Gallery, Moscow), Vulnerable Video Art Festival (2024, Pushkinskaya 10, St. Petersburg), Ontdek (2024, Roman de Vero Gallery, Antwerp), and Kunst Terra (2021, Kunstera Gallery, Zurich).
