Table Top games by definition are games played on a table, and often have physical pisces to move, and involve cards or dice of somesort that inform plates about something they need to do during game play. We have all played table top games, Monopoly, Candy land and Pay day are all some basic examples. The line between a bord game and a table top games are blurred, but most of the time the differentiating factor is the age rang the game is ment for. While online games can have elements at table tops games (looking at you Bulders Gate and Skyrime) due to their online format they will not be included in todays blog post.
Role Play Games or more comonaly called RPG’s being a new element to games, where the player plays as a character in the game and not themselves. In most cases the player creates the character they will be playing in the game, creating a backstory for the chactoer and traits they as they player may or may not possess themselves.
In this Blog post we are going to look at table top games and where to start if you are instead in playing them! For me a table top game have more rules and more in game mechanics then bord games, along with being made for a higher age range. All the games mentioned below are available on amazon, a local box store or at your local gaming/hobbie store!
A good place to start:
When you start playing table tops games it takes a while to learn all the games mechanics and how rules can change depending on different in game sucations. Some good games to get you stared that are not too completed but will still let you enjoy the fun of table tops games are:
Where to go form their?
What to take a step up and try some games that are more RPG based, but you are not ready to take on the task of creating your own character? Betrayal at the House on the Hill and Zombiecide are both great options thay allowed you to role play a little bit while still being esey for a first time player to understand and enjoy! One of the first times I played a Table top games it was when my best friends Dad hosted a Halloween themse Zombicide game day. Form their I got bit by the bug and now we try to do our Halloween Zombircide games every year ( and I have won most helpful/valuble player every year).
Ready for the Big Leagues?
Some of the most popular and trending table tops games are very heavily RPGs, with the plot of the game being heavily included by players characters and their decisions. These games have books upon books of rules to help direct games play, but ultamily up to whom ever is running the game to decided what rules appy and what rules don’t in your game. It is this space to be creative with rules, plot, characters and outcomes that really lets these table tops shine as some of the best games out their!
I have never played this game myself, but I have helped pained miniatures for someone who dose! Want to explore the games and all its possibilities, take a look at the official website here!

I am a DnD girl, I played in multiple campaigns as a player, have DMed for players old and new and was luckey enohgut to play for 5hr every Sunday for all of hight school. I am lucky enough that my best friends was so willing to teach me the game, and allow me to ask as the stupid questions I needed to to understand the game. Starting DnD can be SO overwhieling, their are literally text books of rules, rules change depending on your specific character, and on top of all of them many DMs creat “homebrew” rules that only apply to their games. The best advice I can give to any new players is find a good DM who will work with you the lean the game, find a good party who wants to lean with you and dont let the rules stop your fun!

Ginny Di is one of my personal favorit creators in the DnD space and makes lost of beginner player contect! She also just makes really fun and enjoyable fandom contact, check it out for more!
While this game has a much smaller following then DnD it is a TON OF FUN especially if you love Star Wars loure! As someone who came for DnD to Age of Rebellion their was a bit a larning curve due to the vastly diffent game mechanics, but it only took one session for me to love the games because of these difference. Age of Rebellion is a lot more structured in how you gain and can use skills and use them with much less homebrew applied to the game as a whole. In this game their is a set timeframe of when the games takes palace and due to the large expanse of the Star Wars Universe everything you and your party do in game can be seen as canon in the Star Wars Universe. So if your and your party decide to take a pit stop on the Death Start in your games, you dont want to stay to long!
