Want to know more about who is working on and defining terms in the dictionary? Its you! All terms are defined by members of fandoms new and old! The writer and creator of the blog its self is Emrys (aka me!)! Of course that is not her real name, but you will quickly find that due to a lot of fandom being online lot of its members and creators use pseudonyms! These pseudonym normally come form their users gamer tags, Instagram users names, discord names, table top characters they have played (in my case with the name Emrys) or their fanfciton author names! A
AFK- “Away for Keybord”
AO3- Abbreviation for “Archive of our Own” a popular fan fiction reading site
AU- “Author Universe”, a universe created by the creator, can be cannon, Fanon, Head cannon or crossover
Alpha- term with the Omegaverse genera, 2nd fictional biological gender
Angst- A feeling of anxiety or dread cause by the content you are consuming
The BB- “The Big Bad” used in gaming and table top fandoms, referring the big villain at the end of the game, the final villain
Beta- someone who edits a fan fiction or works with the writer of a fan fiction to improve the fan fiction, normally voluntary
BL- “Boys Love” used to indicate the content you are viewing has a Homosexual relationship as part of the plot, this is term is normally used in Korean Media
Canon- official timeline/facts of a story
Character Death- someone is dying, a main character, a side character, any named character is liable to die in this media
Con - Short had for Convention (ex. Otakon, Dragoncon, Anime USA)
Crack Ship- A romantic pairing/couple that will never happen in the media they star in but is normally fun or entertaining to think about
Crossover- a where two or more types of media are brought together (ex. Sorting your favorite characters in to their Hogwarts houses, Drawing/imagining anime characters as Disney Princesses, fanfcition were Maverick form "Top Gun" joins the MIF form "Mission Impossible"
Dead Drove do not eat- sometime the best deffination is the one you can fine online "a warning or tag used to indicate that a fanwork contains tropes or elements that may be deemed morally reprehensible without explicitly condemning the sensitive aspects" (via Reddit) Comes form the Show "Arrested Development" where a character finds a brown paper bag in the fridge labeled "dead dove do not eat", and when they go to open said bag, what was in it? A dead dove, not for eating.
DM/GM- in Dungeons and Dragons you will have a Dungeon maters who is the persons who runs the game (the term is also used for other table top gaming) and Game Master is another titles used for someone running a game, table top of otherwise
f/f- Female and Female romantic relationship (Homosexuality, lesbians)
Fan fic- Short hand for Fan Fiction
Fan fiction- Unofficial fan work written for fans by fans on sights such as Archive of out own, Wattpad, and Fanficion.net to name a few
Fannon- things that are not official facts or plot points in the media but the fans have decided it is as good as official and have collectively agreed on it (ex. Severus Snap is Draco Malfoy’s Godfather)
f/m- Female and Male romantic relationship (Straight)
Fluff- Slang for sweet/lovey lovey content
HEA- “Happily ever After”
Hurt no comfort- the media you are enjoying has content that could be harmful/emotional for the consumer with no Happily ever after
Kudos- a metric of measurement of who has read and enjoyed the work of Archive of Our Own (fan fiction) think of it like, likeing an Instagram post!
lemons/limes- Older term used to refer to sexual content in fan work, normally sed on sighters where such content was not allowed and/or heavily monitored
Lute Goblin- gaming/tabletop term referring to a player who lutes anything they can for anything they can find, normally used in the context of luteing a dead body
MCS-”Main character syndrome” term used in dnd/Gaming term
m/m- Male and Male romantic relationship (Homosexuality, gay)
Murder Hobo- term normally used in table top games but popularized in DnD, is a player/character who has a tendency to kill any NPC they come in contact with
NPC- a “Non player Character” any character in the story who has not played by a player, nornaly used in video games and table tops games ex. Village/town people, the quest giver, and the villain
OTP- “One True Pairing”, older term for the 2010 used to indicate someones favorite ship/best ship (ex. “Yuri and Victor form Yuri on Ice!!! are my OTP”)
October and AO3- Every October their is a wrighting challange on fan ficaiton sight AO3 that encourages wrighters to wright something new everyday ouf the mounth, the over all theme involves sexual content, so this is an explorer at your own topic, I would suggest advantering over to Tumbler to find out more!
Party- gaming/table top and L.A.R.P term used to referring to the people you are playing with, your
PWP- stands for “porn without plot” or “plot what plot” normally used with tagging fanfiction, is just pure, unapologetic filth- definition provided by @sherlock_holms on insta
Rule 34- if it exist their is porn of it, do not google unless you are of age
Ship- a romantic pairing/couple that you as a fan want to see, can be Cannon or not (ex. Naruto/ Sasuke, Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley “I ship RM and Jin form BTS, even thought I know it will never happen.”
SI- self-insert, normally on the part of the author when paired with and OC, so like SI/OC. Which means that the work is self indulgent on the part of the author as their original character is meant to represent them, and are similar tho them, instead of a more randomized original cars yet
Slash (/)- the symbol or phrase used to indicate you are shipping the characters together that are on either side of the symbols (ex. Lily Evens/James Potter, Jamie Fraser/Clair Beeachum)
Smut- slang for sexual content ex.”This book is so smutty (has sexual content, normally a larger amount)”
Yaoi- M/M or Boys love genre, normally used in regards with Japanese media (anime, mange, light novels )
[y/n]- “your name” used to indicate for the reader should import their own name, normally used in reader insert Fanfiction
Yuri- F/F or Girls love general, normally used in regards with Japanese media (anime, manga, light novels)
