Lets take the magic of the Ran fair and take it a step further! Welcome to the world of Live Action Role Play of L.A.R.P!
What is LARP?
The best definition comes form LARP Progressive:
“Live Action Role Playing games are a form of role-playing where participants physically portray their characters on a constructed set, generally as a big group. Large events like battles, feasts, and tournaments, typically organized by the event staff, happen around the individual characters. Participants are usually in costume, and they are often following a set of rules established by the organizers.
If you see a big group of reenactors — whether medieval knights, American civil war soldiers, orcs, or Jedi — battling each other, you’re most likely looking at a LARP event. If you talk to a participant, and they respond as the type of person they’re dressed as, you’re definitely looking at a LARP: speaking and reacting to the world around you as a fictional persona is known as being “in character”. Think of it like method acting. but without a script.
LARPing can be done for fun, to learn something, or as a therapy technique. The live action element of the game makes it more engaging, immersive, and exciting than conventional tabletop roleplaying games.
The length of an event can vary, from a single day to up to a month. There are also LARP festivals, where participants can actually spend their nights there and remain immersed in the story the whole time.”
