With fewer adventures to go on, most adventurers spend a lot of their time in taverns getting drunk. In an attempt to liven things up, the drinking establishments enacted a “Scrappy Hour” policy in which brawling is permitted after sundown.
A “brawl bell” can be rung from a hiding place beneath the bar. This bell is used to signal the beginning of Scrappy Hour, from which the term “ringing in” has arisen.
Scrappy Hour lasts until there is one person left standing, and then all fighters pay a fee, which is used to cover the damages.
Some towns have even formed semi-professional tavern brawling teams, establishing special taverns designated to a popular spectator sport known as “The Punch Bowl”. These taverns receive more funding from team sponsorships.
Fighting outside of Scrappy Hour results in exile or heavier fines.
