アメリカ、アーカーソン出身。1983 年にテキサス、ブラッドリー大学大学院陶芸専攻終了。現在はテキサスクリスチャン大学芸術学部准教授。石、粘土、およびその他の伝統的な素材を使用して、植物、動物、自然現象などから抽象的な形を見出し、これをテーマに作品を制作している。テキサス、ダラス周辺の巨大な公共彫刻を手掛ける一方で、ファウンドオブジェクトや掌に収まるような小さな彫刻作品を多数手がける。

Chris Powell received his MFA in ceramics from Bradley University in 1983 and now teaches the subject at Texas Christian University. A recipient of numerous public and private commissions for outdoor sculpture, Powell employs stone, clay, and other traditional materials to explore the abstract shapes of plants, animals, and natural phenomena. His work, through the subtle balance of figurative and non-figurative elements, seeks to evoke memories of early modernism. His proficiency as a sculptor and ceramist imparts an air of timeless perfection to his deceptively simple exercises in form.
