Workshop 1
TechSpark: Transform Your Classroom with Digital Tools 


The workshop will discuss digital tools designed to support lesson planning and the creation of educational materials. Innovative applications and platforms to develop interactive content will be explored, to improve the classroom experience and enhance the teaching-learning process. In this way, we seek to make classes more dynamic and engaging for students. 


Speakers: Gabriela Felipe Machado de Carvalho and Simone Conceição de Lima Amorim

Gabriela graduated in English Language from the Federal University of Paraíba (2010), she has been a state school teacher in Paraíba since 2013 and a municipal school teacher in João Pessoa since 2015. Specializing in languages, their technologies, and the world of work at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), she is currently pursuing a professional master's degree in Linguistics and Teaching at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). She participated in the Gira Mundo-Professores exchange program in 2016 and, in 2019, supported the coordination of Gira Mundo - Formação de Formadores course. Additionally, she coordinated and wrote the curriculum for the Centers of Reference in Learning Innovation (CRIA) in Paraíba, and was responsible for the pedagogical area of schools and the continuous training of English teachers. Currently, she participates in creating educational materials at the Paraíba State Language Center.

Simone is a student in the Professional Master's Program in Linguistics and Teaching (MPLE) at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), she has been an English Language teacher since 2009 for the Government of Paraíba. Specialist in Languages, their Technologies, and the World of Work from the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), and in Technologies and Distance Education from UniBF. She is a Teacher Trainer from the Bournemouth & Poole College (BPC) - England, through the Conexão Mundo Program, where she acted as a Tutor Trainer in 2022 and currently holds the position of Pedagogical Articulator. In 2018, she participated in the Professional Development Program for English Language Teachers (PDPI), studying English Language Teaching Methodologies at San Francisco State University (SFSU). She is currently a teacher and pedagogical coordinator of the English courses at Celin PB.

Workshop 2
Slide making: how to use Graphic Design principles to improve visual aid in the classroom


The workshop’s objective is to discuss the use of slides as a visual aid in the classroom, covering its different possibilities for active learning strategies and focusing on presenting Graphic Design principles as guidelines to help teachers improve their own processes of slide making and visual communication.


Speaker: Anna Karina Felipe de Souza

Anna Karina is an undergraduate student at Universidade Federal da Paraíba pursuing a degree in Letras Inglês. Worked as a scholarship holder in the English Language subproject “Programa de Iniciação à Docência” (Pibid), provided by Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (Capes) (2022 - 2024). Studied Graphic Design at Instituto Federal da Paraíba (2017-2019) and participates in projects as a freelancer illustrator. Her major interests include visual arts (such as Graphic Design and illustration), literature, multimodality and English Language teaching.

Workshop 3
Fun to learn: managing digital resources for young learners

Speakers: Helen Castelo Branco and Tatiana Ramalho Barbosa

Helen holds a Postgraduate course in Applied Linguistics from Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) and a Diploma in English language and literature from Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). Currently, she works with young learners but also has experience with different ages and contexts. Her interests include multiliteracies, technology, and media integration in the English language classroom.

Tatiana holds two Master’s degrees: one in Journalism (PPJ/UFPB) and another in Linguistics and Teaching (MPLE/UFPB). She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Linguistics (Proling/UFPB). She has experience in various educational settings, including regular schools and language institutes. Her interests lie in using technology to enhance English language teaching and learning. Currently, she is researching language processing and psycholinguistics.

Workshop 4
Activating character strengths in the EFL classroom


Activating character strengths in the classroom has a positive impact on engagement, performance, and learning. In this workshop, we aim at introducing the character strengths theory and practices so teachers can become acquainted with them and ultimately be able to foster a strengths-based culture in their EFL classrooms


Speakers: Renata Ferreira de Sousa and Anna Libia Araujo Chaves

Renata is a regular teacher at the Federal Institution of Paraíba (IFPB) and she has been teaching English at Integrated High School Courses for 6 years. Before that, she has also taught English in higher education and language courses contexts. She holds a Licensure degree in English from the Federal University of Paraíba as well as a Master's degree in Linguistics from the same institution. She is a Specialist in English teaching methodologies, English literature and Positive Psychology. She is also a Positive Practitioner and Trainer and a Human Flourishing Instructor by IFAC. Currently, her main interest of investigation is the analyses and the promotion of positive emotions as a way to increase the feeling of well-being within the students and colleagues, having as a dream the implementation of positive education in all schools.

Anna Libia is a regular teacher at the Federal Institution of Paraíba – IFPB and she has been teaching English at Integrated High School Courses for 18 years. She has graduated from the Federal University of Paraíba – UFPB, in English and Portuguese languages. She has also reached a Specialization Course as well as a Master’s degree, both from UFPB as well. Recently, she has been interested in studying and researching about Positive Psychology, most specifically, Positive Education. Currently, she has been leading the Positive Psychology Center at IFPB. Her main interests for investigation are related to the relationship between the teaching/learning process and the emotions of the students at IFPB. She also wishes to research about the teachers’ emotions during the process of teaching.

Workshop 5
Preparing English Materials from Scratch


As English teachers, we face situations in which we don’t have a coursebook and have to plan our classes. In this workshop, we will analyze the materials designed for some courses, and will have the opportunity to come up with a class plan.


Speakers: Elaine Maria Santos and Rodrigo Belfort Gomes

Elaine is an English professor at the Federal University of Sergipe, in Brazil. She completed her undergraduate degree in Portuguese-English and holds a Masters in Languages and a PhD in Education. She was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar in 2018 at New York University. She is the national coordinator of Rede Andifes IsF - English. Her research interests are in applied linguistics, teacher education, history of education, Languages without Borders, English teaching, internationalization, Language Policies, culture and identity.

Rodrigo is an English teacher at the Federal University of Sergipe, in Brazil. He completed his undergraduate degree in English and holds a Masters in Languages and a PhD in Education. He is the Pedagogical coordinator of Rede Andifes IsF - English at UFS and the Head of the Language Advisory Division of the Coordination of International Relations at UFS. His research interests are in applied linguistics, teacher education, English for Specific Purposes, focusing on Languages without Borders, English textbooks, internationalization and Language Policies.

Workshop 6

Using literature in the classroom: multiple voices, various possibilities 

Working with literature, though an important tool to foster language learning, can sometimes be a challenging task for teachers. In this workshop, participants will be able to: i. see how literature is an integral part of English language learning; ii. work with literary texts in practical ways; iii. discuss multiple uses of literary texts together with other media, for instance, films; iv. see the larger potential of literature as a feasible instrument to build bridges between teachers, among students and society at large; v. share ideas on how to use poems, short stories alongside different media to promote discussions around social justice, gender equality and anti racist pedagogies.


Speakers: Lucas Neves and Elizabeth Souto Maior

Lucas has been teaching English for more than 10 years in both in person and online settings. Now he is a teacher and language instructor at Colégio de Aplicação in UFPE. He also holds a M.A. in Literature, Culture and Translation (UFPB/PB), with interests in literature, critical literacy, movies and the use of graphic novels and picture books in ELT.

Elizabeth is an Adjunct Professor of English and Afro-American Literatures at UFPB since 2008. She holds a Doctorate degree from the same institution and a Post-doctorate degree from Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Her research interests include literature and teaching, gender, cultural and decolonial studies. At the present moment, she is developing research on Decolonial Literatures of the Anglophone Caribbean. She has also coordinated extension projects on literature and teaching linked to the EFOPLI Program since 2018.
