Embracing diversities in the English language classroom: Experiences from different contexts 

This roundtable aims at discussing themes such as diversity, social justice, and interculturality in the English language classroom, drawing on teaching experiences from different settings, from university to school.

Speakers: Ana Beatriz de Albuquerque Aragão Cordeiro, Daniela Gomes de Araújo Nóbrega, and Maria Ellen Maciel.

Ana Beatriz de Albuquerque Aragão Cordeiro

Ana Beatriz de Albuquerque Aragão Cordeiro holds a teaching degree in English Language (Letras-Inglês) from the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) and a master's degree in Applied Linguistics from the Graduate Program in Linguistics (PROLING/UFPB) at the same institution. She participated in the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program as a faculty at Spelman College in Atlanta/GA, EUA. She develops research on Critical Discourse Analysis, Grammar of Visual Design, Gender and Race Studies, Teaching Material and Teaching for People with Disabilities.

Daniela Gomes de Araújo Nóbrega

Degree in Letters Course (Portuguese/English) from UFPB (1997). Master's degree in English: Linguistic and Literary Studies from UFSC (2002). PhD from the Postgraduate Program in Letters / UFAL (2011) and Post-doctoral studies POSLIN/UFMG on Language and Technology Studies (2019-2020). She works as an Associate A professor in the English Letters Course/ FALLA at UEPB, Campus I. She has experience in the following lines of research 1. Linguistics Applied to teaching/learning in Foreign Languages ​​(English) 2. Theory and Pedagogy of Multiliteracies in light of ICTs; 3. Theory and practice of multimodal reading in school contexts; 4. Teacher Training in Foreign Languages ​​from the perspective of Multiliteracies. General Coordinator of the Study Group "Teacher Training in Foreign Languages" (GEFDLE), registered with CAPES and CNPq since 2012. Daniela organized several books in the field.

Maria Ellen Maciel

PhD candidate in Contemporary Studies (UCoimbra), English teacher (PMJP), proofreader and academic consultant (@consulteamaria). Interdisciplinary researcher mainly interested in studies of literary theory, narratology, literature and society, literature and cinema, education and social justice.
