About Me

In addition to being an educator I am an artist and musician. Combining these disciplines to make lessons that engage all types of learners is my goal. This approach comes from my graduate coursework on multiple intelligences, as well as my diverse experiences as a teacher.

My experience as a teacher began in Portland, Oregon where I worked with inner-city youth to research, design, and install a mural celebrating African American history. Inspired by this experience, I moved to South Korea to begin my career as ESL instructor.

My three years in Seoul were transformative, and I realized that I love teaching. I moved back to the US to get my teaching certification from University of New England. After graduation I went to Belgrade, Serbia to earn my Certification for Teaching English to Adults (CELTA), and then finally Taiwan.

Currently I work at a public school in Taipei where I develop interdisciplinary lessons that teach English through percussion, and interactive tools. This semester I have focused on using MIT's Makey-makey and Scratch programming language to make my own Dance-Dance Revolution video game for teaching grammar.

I live in the Taipei’s historic district with my partner and two cats. We enjoy music, art, and traveling to Japan to see performances. My passion lies in tinkering with electronics to create interactive sculpture and installations, which I have exhibited at galleries in Asia, the US and Canada. I also enjoy playing drums in several musical projects.
