Seven Dialogs between Haplous and Synergos
The Architecture of Human Brain Function
That Once Seen, Can't Be Unseen
Welcome
You’re about to encounter an architecture of human brain function that might change the way you see everything. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
It's a scientific explanation that is also personally significant, as it provides a way of seeing ourselves that has always been hiding in plain sight – obscured only by a few deeply ingrained mistaken impressions.
No Longer Enigmas
Some of the strangest features of the human mind – split-brain behavior, blindsight, dream-time compression – have never truly been anomalies. They have often been brushed aside as edge cases or exceptions.
But in light of this framework they become natural, predictable consequences of how the brain actually works.
Once you see the mechanics clearly, you realize:
Of course a split-brain patient behaves that way.
Of course recollection works like that.
Of course perception feels the way it does.
These things only seemed puzzling because we’ve been looking through the wrong lens.
About the Framework
This framework:
Identifies a set of elements in physical-functional terms.
Defines a set of relationships that must hold between those elements.
Combines these into a coherent system – a structure of functional elements and relationships that mirrors the operation of the brain and of conscious experience.
Here, the explanation of conscious experience is not couched in metaphysics or metaphor. It is a structural model that accounts for subjective experience, language, imagination, and memory – not as separate systems, but as aspects of one architecture.
Why Dialogues?
Following the approach of Galileo and Berkeley, I’ve used dialogue not to dramatize but to clarify. Some ideas cannot be grasped all at once. They must be stepped through, question by question, layer by layer. Dialogues allow the reader to follow the reasoning as it unfolds – examining, doubting, discovering.
Each conversation walks through a specific part of the framework, gradually revealing how its parts fit together and why it makes sense.
The Dialogues
This isn’t a textbook. It’s not a lecture. The framework unfolds through conversation.
A former professor turned monk.
A skeptical administrator.
A monastery cat who sees without words.
Each dialogue goes deeper. Each one peels back another layer. What it reveals was always there. It just hadn’t been seen quite this way before.

You can begin exploring the framework on any of these pages:
Brief Synopsis of the Framework – A concise overview of the key concepts for those who want the big picture first.
Epilogue V: Prelude – A casual conversation in a bar that introduces the framework's core ideas through everyday examples.
