The aloe:
The aloe has been used as a special healing plant for generations. It grows in the Eastern Cape. It is called ikhala in isiXhosa.
The uses of aloe:
Its juicy leaves are used for medicine to cure stomach aches.
It is used to help heal cuts and burns.
Juice from the plant can be used to soften skin.
Appearance:
The plant has leaves which are spiky and sharp. It stores water in its thick, fleshy green leaves.
Modern medicine:
Modern medicines get their origins from natural plants. Scientists from all over the world are looking for new cures with the help of traditional healers.
