There an option inside of GPTs called actions. If you are building a custom GPT, you’ll find it under the configure tab. These actions will allow GPTs to take real world actions and do more than just answer questions.

I’m going to show you exactly how to set up these actions to automate your GPTs and make them a lot more useful.

 • How To Create Custom GPTs - Build you...  

I’ll share a very step by step guide, so you can follow along with a numbered list.

Step 1: To create an action, navigate to an existing GPT you are building or create a new one.

Step 2: Click on the configure tab inside the action and go down to click on actions.

To create automation with GPT actions, we are going to use Zapier. Zapier is an automation tools that connects over 6000 apps and can take over 20,000 actions on the web and across those apps.

Step 3: We are going to import a URL. Zapier has a step by step guide, including this URL, so I will link that here:

Once you import the URL, it will add some code that we can ignore. What this does is that it gives you available actions, which are to GET actions and to Run those actions. Press save on the bottom.

Step 4: We now need to create actions and we need to do that via Zapier.

Here, you need to create a Zapier account or sign into one. Then you need to create an action.

In the video, I’ll show you exactly how to create this action.

Step 5: Let’s go to our GPT. We need to give GPT a set of instructions, so it knows how to handle the action we are setting up.

- Before running any Actions tell the user that they need to reply after the Action completes to continue. 

### Instructions for Zapier Custom Action: 

Step 1. Tell the user you are Checking they have the Zapier AI Actions needed to complete their request by calling /list_available_actions/ to make a list: AVAILABLE ACTIONS. Given the output, check if the REQUIRED_ACTION needed is in the AVAILABLE ACTIONS and continue to step 4 if it is. If not, continue to step 2.

Step 2. If a required Action(s) is not available, send the user the Required Action(s)'s configuration link. Tell them to let you know when they've enabled the Zapier AI Action.

Step 3. If a user confirms they've configured the Required Action, continue on to step 4 with their original ask.

Step 4. Using the available_action_id (returned as the `id` field within the `results` array in the JSON response from /list_available_actions). Fill in the strings needed for the run_action operation. Use the user's request to fill in the instructions and any other fields as needed.

Step 6: Add action name and confirmation links

We just need to add action and confirmation link for each action.

Action is the name we chose in Zapier. Paste that exactly.

Confirmation link is the URL of that action. You can find it by clicking the action again and you’ll see the URL in your browser.  

Once those are added, you are all set. You can now chat with your GPT and get it to perform those actions.
