Dvojzákrytové hvězdy (a dnes dokonce i vícezákrytové) jsou čím dál častěji objevované díky velkým přehlídkám oblohy a satelitní fotometrii. Představím několik velmi zajímavých objevů z poslední doby, včetně několika tipů na pozorování v rámci standartního dosahu dalekohledu obyčejného smrtelníka.

HW Vir patří do kategorie krátkoperiodických zákrytových dvojhvězd, kde složkami jsou hvězdy typu červený a bílý trpaslík. Vývoj jejího O-C diagramu nasvědčuje, že systém je komplikovanější a soustava se nechová podle navržených modelů uvedených v posledních publikacích.

Novinky v softvéri OCFit (on-site SK)

Softvér OCFit je určený na fitovanie O-C diagramov zákrytových dvojhviezd a tranzitujúcich exoplanét štandardnými analytickými modelmi (napr. light-time efekt alebo apsidálny pohyb). Program je napísaný v modernom jazyku Python. Súčasťou softvéru je aj veľmi intuitívne grafické rozhranie. OCFit môže byť navyše použitý aj ako knižnica jazyka Python vo vašom vlastnom programe. Jeho vývoj začal v roku 2015. GUI bolo zverejnené o tri roky neskôr. V tomto príspevku prezentujeme zmeny a nové funkcie implementované v danom softvéri od jeho publikovania v roku 2018 (hlavne v roku 2022).

QHY CMOS cameras with GPS support (on-site CZ)

I will briefly explain how QHY CMOS cameras use very precise start exposure timestamps including other GPS metadata inside each image frame which is useful for precise photometry, satellite tracking and/or stars occultations. Talk will explain QHY CMOS cameras with internal and external GPS modules. These GPS modules and camera electronics allow users to measure exposure start times with precision up to 0.5 us. Presentation will also show smaller QHY-174GPS, medium QHY-600MPRO and the largest QHY-411 CMOS cameras.

Efekt šoků na světelné křivky hvězd typu RR Lyrae (on-line CZ)

V průběhu pulzačního cyklu u proměnných hvězd typu RR Lyrae dochází ke kolizi mezi jednotlivými vstvami hvězdné atmosféry. Tyto srážky vedou k výskytu emisních čar ve spektru a zkreslení spektrálních čar (převážně čar vodíku). Ve fotometrii jsou tyto šoky spojovány s výskytem vlnek a hrbolků vystupujících ve světelných křivkách, tak zvaných „humps“ a „bumps“. Efekt těchto šoků na světelné křivky se mezi proměnnými hvězdami typu RR Lyrae liší a nebyl doposud dostatečně probádán.

V1674 Her - the fastest nova (on-line SK)

We report the results of observations of Nova Herculi 2021 - V1674 Her. The object is characterized by several exceptional properties. The progenitor was identified as an intermediate polar. The speed of the outflow reached 10000km/s. The brightness decline was very fast. Time t3 ∼ 1.2d, t3 ∼3d. The pulse spin signal was detected in photometry soon after the nova eruption. Extremely fast spin-up of the white dwarf rotation was measured. We succeed in constructing the O-C diagram of spin pulse maxima from 2 seasons of observations despite the difficulties with cycle countings.

GRBAlpha and VZLUSAT-2 CubeSats Observing the Gamma-Ray Sky (on-site CZ)

I will present the detector performance and science results from GRBAlpha, a 1U CubeSat mission, which is a technological pathfinder to a future constellation of nanosatellites monitoring gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). GRBAlpha was launched in March 2021 and operates on a 550km altitude sun-synchronous orbit. GRBAlpha has already detected several long and short GRBs, flashes from soft-gamma repeater SGR 1935+2154 and solar flares. Recenty, it has detected extraordinarily bright GRB 221009A, which was the most intense GRB ever recorded in the 55 years history of GRB science. One and half year after launch, the detector performance is good and the degradation of the SiPM photon counters remains at an acceptable level. The same detector system, but double in size, was launched in January 2022 on VZLUSAT-2 (3U CubeSat) and it has also detected several GRBs, activity of SGR 1935+2154 and solar flares. This proves that nanosatellites can be used for routine detection of gamma-ray transients.

Nové astronomické kamery pro profesionální i amatérské aplikace (on-site CZ)

Produktové řady astronomických kamer Moravské přístroje se snímači CMOS byly rozšířeny o nové modely sahajících od kompaktních kamery C2, ideálně použitelných s malými amatérskými dalekohledy, po sérii profesionálních kamer C5 s až 150 MPx senzory s uhlopříčkou 67 mm. I řady kamer, které byly uvedeny v předchozích letech, byly doplněny o nové modely podporující profesionální nasazení, jako jsou kamery C4-16000BSI se zezadu osvětlovanými CMOS snímači nebo kamery C1× s možností externí synchronizace expozic a volitelnými GPS moduly pro vysoce přesné časování expozic.

Pozorování dvojzákrytových hvězdných soustav (on-site CZ)

Dvojzákrytové hvězdy jsou novým tématem ve stelární astrofyzice, které se velmi rychle rozvíjí. Nová fotometrická a spektroskopická data umožňují podrobněji zkoumat tyto soustavy a pochopit jejich podstatu. Představíme naši práci a dosavadní výsledky studia vícenásobných hvězd. Jedná se především o nová fotometrická měření, jejich využití pro tvorbu O-C diagramů a prokázání vzájemného pohybu hvězdných párů uvnitř systému. V příspěvku také ukážeme způsoby nalezení nových čtyřhvězdných kandidátů z fotometrických přehlídek.

Automatické generování alertů vyžaduje přesnou fotometrii v reálném čase. Ukážu, jak tento problém řešíme u dalekohledu D50 v Ondřejově. Výsledky se ukládají do databáze, která v současné době obsahuje zhruba 800 tisíc snímků a 800 milionů unikátních fotometrických měření.

Vědecký příspěvek občanských pozorovatelů sdružených v síti Unistellar (on-site CZ)

The Unistellar’s eVscopes and eQuinox telescope owners (~10,000 worldwide) represent the largest network of potential citizen astronomers. These compact (9 kg) telescopes are equipped with a 114 mm mirror and an electronic eyepiece. Due to the unified design and user-friendly operation via a smartphone app, several types of useful scientific observations are enabled and supported by the Unistellar company. Any owner of an eVscope can receive notifications on its smartphone of transient events visible in the sky, such as comets, supernovae, asteroid flybys, stellar occultations by asteroids, exoplanet transits or other targets of interest, perform the observations and upload the data to the Unistellar’s server.

As a planetary scientist, I mostly focus on two specific scientific modes: light curve observations of asteroids and stellar occultations by asteroids. I will show initial results of our campaigns in this field. However, exoplanet or stellar variability science are also viable modes of the network. I will show some examples of what was already achieved in this field in order to illustrate the great potential of the network.

Dlouhodobé sledování dvojhvězdy s nízkou hmotností NSVS 7453183 odhalilo její vícenásobnou povahu a proměnnou povrchovou aktivitu. Byla využita fotometrie z družice TESS i světelné křivky několika aktivních pozorovatelů SPHE.

How Zdenek Kopal saved my Contact Binary Stars (on-line EN)

The morphology of a contact binary star light curve can be an easily accessible and rich source of crucial data. The methods based on the morphology work well, as it was shown with the observational, as well as the numerically simulated data. Nonetheless, both approaches had its limits. Because of that, the proofs were somewhat questionable, if the method was to be extended to a whole family of contact (and near-contact) binary stars. Recently a new proof has been developed - an analytical model based on the Kopal's solution for the light excess due to the stellar distortions in the close binary stars. In this talk I am presenting, how I digested the Kopal's equations and applied to the morphology method, validating it with the analytical model.

Chemically peculiar (CP) stars exhibit a peculiar abundance of chemical elements on their surface layers. A subgroup of hot CP stars with strong abundance of helium have not only a stellar wind, but also a strong magnetic field. The angular momentum loss through magnetic stellar wind is probably responsible for spin down of these stars.

Při hledání transientu vysokoenergetických jevů jako například GRB a GW potřebujeme odečítat snímky ze širokých polí. Přesná automatická astrometrická kalibrace je pro tento úkol asbolutně esenciální. Náhodná procházka mezi astrometry.net, SCAMPy, Montage s dramatickým vyvrcholením a pohádkovým koncem.

AstroInformatics: Scalegram Analysis of Cataclysmic, Symbiotic and Pulsating Variables (on-line EN)

Scalegram Analysis is an effective tool for studies of variability of low coherence - starting from flickering (red noise, fractal variability) to cycle-to cycle changes due to pulsations, second-order modulations, superhumps etc. For signals of "increasing coherence", the wavelet, "windowed" or "global" approximations are recommended. The complete set of equations for the scalegram analysis was introduced by 1997A&AS..125..207A and extended to the improvement of the Morlet-type wacelet analysis (1998KFNT...14..490A), see 2020kdbd.book..191A for more references on original papers. There are few test functions related to a scalegram analysis. Among them, is the "sigma" (unbiased estimate of the r.m.s. deviation (O-C) of the observations from the "calculated" values). At small time scales, it has an (almost) standstill due to observational noise, and another standstill at time scales longer than the duration of observations due to an asymptotic convergence to an ordinary parabola. Inbetween, there is a characteristic rise with a hump due to the Gibbs phenomenon. The position of this transition allows to determine a period (in a case of harmonic oscilations), or a characteristic time scale (cycle duration). The levels of the standstills allow to estimate a (characteristic) semi-amplitude of variations. Such an analysis was done for 173 semi-regular variables ( 2003ASPC..292..401A ). The cataclysmic variable AM Her had shown a fractal-type variability at an extremely wide range from 3s to 30y ( 1997OAP....10...15A ). For an optimal approximation, one may choose the filter half-width using: 1) a minimization of the r.m.s. error estimate of the smoothing function at times of observations; 2) a maximization of the "signal-to-noise" ratio 3) adaptive half width to minimize the error estimate at some point. A next test-function - the "Lambda" scalegram ( 2003ASPC..292..391A ), which transforms the "sigma-" scalegram to peaks similar to the periodogram analysis, and also gives "cycle length" and semi-amplitude. The well-separated periods are well seen at this test function. For statistically optimal determination of ToMs (Times of Maxima (or minima)), the 1D scalegram is replaced by a 2D analogue of the test function ( uavso.org.ua/mavka ). These methods are illustrated to variable stars of different types.

RV Tauri (RV Tau) is a star in the constellation Taurus. It is a yellow supergiant and is the prototype of a class of pulsating variables known as RV Tauri variables. It is a post-AGB star and a spectroscopic binary about 4,700 light years away.

New results of research on the symbiotic system AX Persei (on-site CZ)

Symbiotic stars are the widest known interacting binaries, in which mass is transferred from a cool component (usually a red giant) to its hot companion (usually a white dwarf). This is responsible for the various manifestations of their activity. We present our spectroscopic research on the symbiotic system AX Persei following our analyses of its light curves. The data published in literature were supplemented by our own determinations based on the spectra available in the ARAS database. The orbital period of (681.2 ± 8.3) days and the parameters of investigated binary were determined by the analyses of the radial velocity curve. The time evolutions of the equivalent width and integrated flux values of the prominent emission lines present in the AX Persei spectra as well as the hot component effective temperature variations were also investigated. In order to determine the relationships of the analysed equivalent widths, the correlation analysis of them was performed and the equivalent width - magnitude diagrams were constructed.

Variables discovered by the astronomical expedition, and new variables in VBD reflection nebulae (on-site CZ)

This work presents a collection 97 of variable stars discovered by the participants of the astronomical expedition, which is a yearly summer school for Czech astronomy enthusiasts, during the years 2013 - 2022. Ten additional stars, central stars of nebulae of the van den Bergh catalog, namely VDB13, VDB16, VDB39, VDB53, VDB 66, VDB71, VDB 77, VDB86, VDB91, VDB130 and VDB 153, were shown to be variable. These stars are classified and are presented with precise periods and phased light curves from the TESS mission and the ZTF survey where possible. These discoveries include several eccentric binary stars, binary stars with reflection effects, a Cepheid variable, and a new triple system. The eclipses of the double star VDB 91 = TIC 125501325 were shown to have disappeared between February 2019 and December 2020, indicating changes in the inclination of the system.

Dopplerovská tomografie kataklyzmické proměnné hvězdy IX Velorum (on-site CZ)

Kataklyzmické proměnné hvězdy jsou polodotykové dvojhvězdy složené z bílého a červeného trpaslíka. Hmota, která se přenáší mezi složkami dvojhvězdy, utváří kolem bílého trpaslíka akreční disk, který může být i dominantním zdrojem světla celého systému. Jednou z metod analýzy kataklyzmických proměnných hvězd je Dopplerovská tomografie, která využívá série spektroskopických pozorování těchto systémů. Ve svém příspěvku budu prezentovat výsledky analýzy spekter hvězdy IX Velorum, novám podobné kataklyzmické hvězdy, zejména pak Dopplerovské mapy tohoto systému.

Observability of exoplanets in the city environment (on-site SK)

Nowadays, exoplanets can be observed relatively easily even with small telescopes by using the transit method. Certainly, there are some limits that are given by the observation environment and by the equipment which is used. Ground-based observatories are therefore mostly located in areas with a higher altitude to improve observation conditions, where the influence of the earth's atmosphere is reduced, and far from cities to reduce the influence of light pollution. However, in case the observatory is located in the city environment, the observations are also likely to be limited even by the properties of the parent star around which the exoplanet orbits. The goal of my research is to find out the smallest detectable transit, depending on the used equipment and the properties of the star, in the city environment of Brno that we are able to detect. The measurements are carried out using a telescope with a diameter of 0.6 meters on Kraví hora.

ASTROINFORMATICS: PROGRAM FOR SCALE-ADAPTIVE RUNNING SINE APPROXIMATION WITH TREND. APPLICATION TO S ORI (on-line EN)

We present a new, based on VBA macros, program which is called “VOB”. It realizes an algorithm of the running sine approximation with a linear trend on which we determined filter half width Dt and it corresponds to the best (smaller) estimate of the central point accuracy. This program expands and complements the algorithm of “Running sines” (RS) reviewed by 2013CKA....10..171Ain three paragraphs: 1) the use of the weight function p(z) in a general form (a complete set of expressions was introduced in 1997A%26AS..125..207A); 2) the definition of the statistically optimal value of Dt; 3)adding a linear trend to a sine approximation. The approximation is made at the local interval [t0-Dt, t0+Dt] using an additional weight function p(z), which is dependent on a dimensionless parameter z=(t-t0)/Dt. For |z|>1, p(z)=0. In the RS algorithm, the rectangular filter was used, for the “Running Parabola” (RP), the “bi-square” function was used. We added to our set also “tri-cubic” and “quadro-square” functions. The “tri-cubic” function is usual for the LOWESS algorithm. The similar NAV function (2012Ap.....55..536A) is efficient for phenomenological modeling of the profiles of eclipse, but the “running” approximation has an infinite jump of the second derivative, and thus is not used in our work. The output parameters of the approximation at a trial time point t0 are: 1) Dt – a filter half-width; 2) three parameters of a sinusoid; 3) a trend slope; 4) error estimates of the approximation of the coefficients for an optimal Dt at a given time t0. For the test purposes, we use all functions p(z) listed above. For the presentation, the animations were created that visualize approximationsfor different values of the parameters. The greatest efficiency of the 4-parameter approximation is achieved with a pronounced trend and a small number of variability cycles during the observation period. For shorter intervals of observations, this parameter has got the larger scatter, producing elusive trends. The program is applied to two types of signals with unevenly spaced data: 1) sine with constant and variable period with an additional noise; 2) a subset of the visual observations of the Mira-type star S Ori from the AAVSO database. We plan to analyze observations of other stars, which are published in photometric surveys.

Doubly Eclipsing Systems Searching and Study (on-site EN)

Doubly eclipsing stars are fascinating objects in many ways. Finding a suitable candidate for a such system may not be easy. However, this is just the beginning of the research. After the discovery itself, we need to collect mainly photometric data and disentangle the light curves. To confirm a quadruple star with two eclipsing binaries we have to prove its structure. Observing the moments of minima and constructing O-C diagrams is the most common way. The poster introduces the topic of these objects and shows how various their measurements can look.

Autonomní robotické dalekohledy v Ondřejově (on-site CZ)

Na observatoři ASÚ AV ČR v Ondřejově již řadu let úspěšně provozujeme a také průběžně vyvíjíme autonomní robotické dalekohledy BART/SBT a D50 a také systém RTS2, který je ovládá. Primárním cílem obou dalekohledů je neprodleně reagovat na detekce gama záblesků (GRB), většina pozorovacího času je však využívána za účelem fotometrie rozličných proměnných objektů. Představíme parametry obou dalekohledů i základní principy a filozofii fungování jejich řídícího systému.

Eruptivní trpaslík CzeV502 - co o něm víme deset let po objevu? (on-site CZ)

CzeV502 is a common red dwarf of spectral class M. Ten years ago, we discovered its flaring activity using a 3-cm telescope. Our analysis showed that two eruptions could be classified as superflares which rank variable star CzeV502 among the most active dwarfs. Despite this fact, it was difficult to record other flares. Complications and successes from this research will be mentioned in this contribution.

Photometry of ER Vul, NEO asteroids (52768) 1998 OR2 and 2022 UR4.
