COMPLETING A CLASS
HOW TO COMPLETE A LESSON
CONDUCTING A FULL 25-MINUTE CLASS
ENDING THE LESSON ON TIME
1. Prepare for the lesson. Do not mention or discuss TABOO topics (listed below) and ask follow up questions related to the lesson.
2. Make use of TPR and teaching aids to make the lesson more engaging especially for kids.
3. For consecutive lessons with the same student, enter and leave the AC room as scheduled.
4. If the student is absent,
a. For free trial lessons, wait for the student until the 25th minute prior to tagging the student absent
b. For regular lesson, tag the student absent on the 15th minute before you can leave the AC.
Don’t forget to secure and save screenshots as validation proofs for student’s absence.
5. If the lesson started earlier than the scheduled time, do free talk and still end the lesson at the 25th minute of the AC time.
Here are some tips for being on time for classes:
STARTING THE LESSON ON TIME
1. Have a regular and fixed schedule and stick to it.
2. Refresh MyPage on every lesson interval and enter the AC room 3-5 minutes before the lesson time.
3. For assigned lesson within the lesson time, enter the AC room within a minute from the time when the lesson was allocated.
4. Ensure that you are in the correct room - Double check the lesson time prior to entering the room.
TABOO TOPICS
As an online teaching service platform, we have a strict compliance to be responsible for our clients. Please show respect to Chinese culture by keeping in mind the following Zero Tolerance Policy, and avoid offensive language or sensitive topics.
Avoid these taboo topics listed below:
LESSON MEMO
Lesson Memos are submitted after a lesson is conducted with a student. Here are the deadlines:
Lesson Memo Guidelines
1. Always submit an accurate Lesson Memo after every successfully completed class. **Successful class: Teacher taught booked lesson material maximizing allotted time.
2. If the student is late, continue to teach the lesson till the 25th minute. If 15 minutes of an actual lesson is completed you may post a Lesson Memo.
3. You can mark a student absent after the 15th minute of a booked lesson. Once the student is tagged absent, you may leave AC to prepare for your next lesson. DO NOT POST A LESSON MEMO.
4. If you are absent, DO NOT POST A LESSON MEMO. It is strongly recommended to inform Lesson Support ahead of time about your absence.
(This applies to system-auto sub cases)
5. If technical issues are encountered during class, DO NOT POST A LESSON MEMO. Secure screenshots and report to Technical Support immediately.
Please take note that late and unqualified lesson memos would result to warnings, monetary penalty or both.

PENALTIES
Entering the classroom late and/or leaving early is one driver of complaints and causes refund. It s also unprofessional for teachers to miss the appointment. Absences not only hurt the teacher's reputation but also generate complaints and bad evaluation. Please do your best to avoid these attendance issues to improve your renewal and earning. Here are the corresponding penalties for your Attendance Issues:
Effective March 01, 2022, 51Talk will lessen the penalty for early absence reporting. Penalties would also be based on percentage of base rate per lesson instead of a fixed amount which will make the penalties fair for teacher levels.
Example:
1. A teacher reported his/her absence 12 hours before lesson time.
- Master Teacher B = 75php lesson rate*10% of per lessons rate = 7.5php penalty
- Senior Teacher A = 62php lesson rate*10% of per lessons rate = 6.2php penalty
You can use the Absence Appeal Mypage function by filling an appeal from your lesson history tab instead of submitting ticket to fees.
Please be reminded that absent penalty is valid if you’re unable to successfully conduct booked lesson. As stipulated in your service agreement, each absent penalty has a standard penalty rate based on the time of the absent notification.
