A love of pure form, patterns in nature, geometry and the art of many cultures play a role in my work. I make objects for everyday use that are comfortable in the hand and beautiful to see.
I work exclusively in durable, mid-range stoneware clay and use non-toxic glazes. The process involves a double firing: after pieces are fully dried, they are fired to bisque at 1828F, which drives out the water between and within the clay particles. After glazes have been applied, the kiln is fired to 2232F which causes the clay to vitrify: it metamorphoses into a glass-like structure on the molecular level.
My studio is in rural Vermont, with a mountain view out the door. On occasion, I create panels and objects in stained glass.
