2013 + 2017 elections: ward 9

In 2013, five candidates sought election in Ward 9, while seven candidates ran in 2017 (Open Calgary, 2017b; Open Calgary, 2017c).
In 2013 Gian-Carlo Carra was elected with 48.6% of the vote (Open Calgary, 2017b).
In 2017, Gian-Carlo Carra was elected with 44.7% of the vote (Open Calgary, 2017c).
- Carra was one of only two Councillors to be reelected with a smaller vote share in 2017, the other Councillor being Diane Colley-Urquhart of Ward 13.

Ward 9 - Changes

Ward 9 increased in area by 22% with the boundary changes implemented for the 2017 election; while the ward's total population increased by 21%, from 74760 to 90386 residents (Open Calgary, n.d. a; Open Calgary, n.d. b).

Ward 9's Councillor

Councillor Gian-Carlo Carra was first elected in 2010, and was reelected for his third term in 2017 (City of Calgary, 2017f).
