Currently, there is not a 4-H curriculum for US history. Club leaders may choose their own resources. Parents of club members should be given an opportunity to have input about resources used for their children. Club leaders need to remember to welcome members of all faiths, cultures and backgrounds into their meetings.
I am putting together lesson plans that 4-H leaders can easily use to teach history. (This is a work in progress). Teachers may also enjoy putting together their own lesson plans. The following resources are very helpful.

Family School by American Heritage includes an excellent history curriculum. Some of the resources are available for free when you register on their website. The full curriculum requires a paid membership. Be aware that these materials have been written to correlate with the doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In a 4-H setting, I leave out doctrinal content and focus on the history stories and hands-on activities. Our 240-page book on American history is unlike any other. Where other textbooks for kids focus on what happened, we focus on why it all happened. Where other books ignore the ideas behind the Revolution, our book is full of them.
Join Ethan and Emily through a series of stories that share the inspiring events and powerful ideas behind the founding of America. This is an essential book for every freedom-loving family who wants their children to learn about America’s past so we can create a better future together.
See here for a greater description of the book and some sample pages.
