Sumerian Civilization
Sumer was an ancient civilization founded in the Mesopotamia region of the Fertile Crescent situated between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.Known for their innovations in language, governance, architecture and more, Sumerians are considered the creators of civilization as modern humans understand it.
In each city state, they had a god. In the center of each city has a ziggurat. Ziggurats look like pyramids. On the top of the ziggurat people perform rituals. Each god had a nickname like lugal gal,and ensi.
There were also laws that people had to follow or face punishment. The creation of government is credited to the sumerians.Good thing they created laws or else we would be doing whatever we want. (LD)
Babylonian Civilization
The Babylon's had two time periods of civilization. They were called the Neo and Old Babylon. The old babylonian were really powerful because of their king. His name was king Hammurabi. He helped their civilization because he turned them into rich and power poverty. The neo babylonian civilization on the other hand was a lot newer then old babylonian.Their king was named king Nebuchadnezzer. He built the Ishtar Gates. He also conquered Syria and Palestine and made Babylon a splendid city.
Both kings who once ruled Babylonia were both really powerful. King Nebuchadnezzar was influenced by King Hammurabi because King Hammurabi had a giant kingdom and was really strong. Hammurabi had established Babylonia by expanding Babylon's control to the city-states of southern Mesopotamia. He also pushed Babylon's power further north, taking over much of the Euphrates River. Assyrian Civilization
The Assyrian Empire started off as a major regional power in Mesopotamia in the second millennium B.C.E., but later grew in size and stature in the first millennium B.C.E. under a series of powerful rulers, becoming one of the world’s earliest empires. In ancient times, the Assyrian civilization was often centered in the city of Assur named after the supreme god of Assyria. Before the city gained its independence around 4,000 years ago, it was controlled by the Sumerians. The Sumerian’s civilization declined because of many problems, including when King Ashurbanipal fought his brother, and lost.
The people of Assyria used new warfare techniques to take over enemy cities one by one. The Assyrian Empire maintained power for hundreds of years. In the 600s B.C.E., the empire became too large to maintain, and it fell apart. The Assyrian king, Ashurbanipal, built his palace on the banks of the Tigris River, which was located in the northern part of Mesopotamia. The Assyrians are very cool and are a fascinating topic.
