What is the FAA remote ID requirement that I hear so much about?
The FAA Remote ID requirement dictates that Radio Control (RC) model aircraft flying in the US must broadcast a signal that provides specific information. Three Oaks Flyers is a FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA) site which allows our members to fly their radio control model aircraft without the need for Remote ID broadcast equipment. For more info: Remote ID Explained
Once you understand the basics, becoming a member of the Three Oaks Flyers flying club is a fun way to connect with experienced pilots who can teach you how to fly. For a low risk experience, our club trainer airplane coupled with the support of one of our experienced pilots is a great way to get in the air while also learning your way around the flight line!
Is Three Oaks Flyers, “Skalski Field" a private flying site?
Our “Skalski Field“ flying site is leased and operated by the AMA affiliated Three Oaks Flyers of Virginia Beach, VA and is intended for the sole use of Three Oaks Flyers and guests. All Three Oaks Flyers club, AMA, FAA, and FCC rules shall apply.
Three Oaks Flyers is a diverse group and weather permitting you will find our members flying at different times throughout the week within established hours. For our newcomers who are just getting started the best time to participate is typically Saturday or Sunday mornings or afternoon.
Start times for electric powered aircraft are 9:00 am on weekdays and weekends. Starting times for reciprocating internal combustion powered aircraft are 9:00 am on weekdays and 12:00 noon on weekends. With a club vote, engine start time may be waivered up to one hour for weekend scheduled events.
Absolutely! Club members are encouraged to bring a guest to fly at Skalski Field. AMA members who are not club members may fly occasionally or during a temporary visit in the area. For safety, it is the responsibility of the guest's sponsor to ensure the guest is familiar with field rules. See our field safety section for more guidelines.
