The following is the criteria for each of the routine annual Squadron awards presented at the year-end Annual Review.
Top Athlete Award
This award is given to the Cadet who has the highest performance during the Cadet Fitness Test, sports nights, and biathlon days.
Top Bandsman.
This award is given annually to the Cadet who has the highest performance during band activities in the Squadron, and attendance will be considered.
Best Dress and Deportment Award
This award is given to the Cadet with the highest average uniform mar form all inspections during the training year. They must exemplify the highest standards of professionalism through personal deportment and must have excellent attendance and attitude at all Squadron activities.
Top Overall Cadet
This award is given to the Cadet that exemplifies all aspects of the Cadet movement, and will be based on but not limited to the following criteria:
dress and deportment
attendance
attitude
initiative
leadership skills
academics
participation in extra-curricular activities
Top Marksman Award
Have the highest average score on all targets available from the training year – including competition targets.
Top Biathlete Award
Have the highest average performance during training and competitions
Top Level Cadet
This award is given to one Cadet per level, per training year. It takes into account dress, deportment, attendance, class participation, and general performance throughout the training year.
Best Morale and Esprit De Corps Award
This award is given to one Cadet based on their attitude throughout the training year.
Most Improved Cadet
Open to any Cadet in the Squadron having 6 months seniority or more, this award will be granted to a Cadet that demonstrates improvement in one or more of the following areas:
dress and deportment
attendance
attitude
initiative
leadership skills
academics
should have excellent attendance, good uniform and a positive attitude towards the cadet movement
.
The Lord Strathcona Medal is one of the highest awards which can be bestowed upon a cadet/JCR. It is awarded annually to cadets/JCRs to recognize exemplary performance in physical training as well as their service, performance, example and excellence as a cadet/JCR.
The recipient must have a comprehensive knowledge of the activities of the Cadet/JCR Program and must meet the following requirements:
display a high level of physical fitness;
have completed three years as a cadet/JCR;
have completed all requirements of their corps/sqn/patrol training program in the year of nomination; and
be regarded by peers and supervisors as exemplifying the model cadet/JCR.
The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) Cadet Medal of Excellence is awarded in recognition for individual endeavours in citizenship that meet or enhance the aims and objectives of the cadet movement. The program is wholly sponsored by the RCL.
The main objective in awarding the RCL Cadet Medal of Excellence is to emphasize the citizenship aspects of the cadet program. To be eligible for consideration, a cadet must meet the following conditions:
met all requirements of the corps/sqn annual mandatory and optional training programs;
participated in a minimum of three community service events, in addition to those supported by the cadet corps/sqn;
regarded by peers and superiors as exemplifying the model cadet; and
enhanced the cadet corps/sqn through:
co-operation with peers and subordinates,
comradeship,
promoting goodwill and morale within the corps/sqn,
aiding in the development of group identity and cohesiveness,
supporting and assisting fellow unit members, and
his/her involvement in the local community.
The Air Cadet League of Canada (ACL) has created an Award to recognize continuous meritorious Cadet Service of at least four years by deserving Air Cadets. The effective date of this Award shall be 1 January 2006.
To qualify for this Award, a serving Cadet must have successfully completed four years of honourable service with no serious infractions. All currently serving Air Cadets shall be eligible for this Award.
