2024 Conference FAQs
General Questions
Why did PhotovoiceWorldwide decide to hold Photovoice conference as a virtual experience?
One of PhotovoiceWorldwide’s missions is to create a global community of peer-to-peer support around photovoice. We have been working remotely since 2018, engaging with people from around the globe through Zoom. We felt that holding a virtual conference would be the best way to continue this experience and provide an opportunity for attendees from every corner of the world to participate in the conference without the hassle and expense of traveling.
Why does PVWW charge a registration fee for a virtual experience?
PhotovoiceWorldwide has self-funded the entire conference, putting work into this event. To help underwrite staff-associated costs, virtual platform and management fees, honorariums, and various other expenses, we decided to create a sliding scale of prices, including student tickets starting at $60.
How do I request accommodations for the conference?
At the Photovoice Conference, our goal is to hold all presentations and meetings where no attendees feel excluded due to disabilities or personal preferences. We comply with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) to make all reasonable arrangements to ensure comfortable and accessible events for all. We recognize not all disabilities require accommodations and some are invisible.
While we do not require attendees to disclose their needs, contact us at conference@pvww.org or complete the accessibility questions during the registration process for individualized support. Requests should be requested no later than September 16th. Requests for accommodations made after this time will be honored to the maximum extent feasible.
Will closed captioning be used during the conference?
During conference sessions, our team will ensure that closed captioning will be available to all attendees. To access the captioning, each attendee will enable the feature through their zoom platform.
What types of events can be expected at the 2024 Photovoice Conference?
The Photovoice Conference will be a packed, virtual 4 days including presentations from our keynote speakers, poster and oral presentations, workshops, roundtables and panels, networking and mentoring!

Why are not all workshops and keynotes speakers specifically on the photovoice method?
PhotovoiceWorldwide views the photovoice under the umbrella of participatory visual research methods which includes participatory photography, arts-based methods, and photovoice. We encourage learning and collaboration across all these visual methods closing the knowledge gap between people with lived experience and people who make decisions about their lives.
The interdisciplinary nature of the conference is intentional. We hope it advances the safe, ethical, effective, and context-based use of these methods.
