General Questions
Why did PhotovoiceWorldwide decide to hold Photovoice conference as a virtual experience?
One of PhotovoiceWorldwide’s missions is to create a global community of peer-to-peer support around photovoice. We have been working remotely since 2018, engaging with people from around the globe through Zoom. We felt that holding a virtual conference would be the best way to continue this experience and provide an opportunity for attendees from every corner of the world to participate in the conference without the hassle and expense of traveling.
Why did PVWW charge a registration fee for a virtual experience?
PhotovoiceWorldwide has self-funded the entire conference, putting work into this event. To help underwrite staff-associated costs, virtual platform and management fees, honorariums, and various other expenses, we decided to create a sliding scale of prices, including student tickets starting at $60.

Why were not all workshops and keynotes speakers specifically on the photovoice method?
PhotovoiceWorldwide views the photovoice under the umbrella of participatory visual research methods which includes participatory photography, arts-based methods, and photovoice. We encourage learning and collaboration across all these visual methods closing the knowledge gap between people with lived experience and people who make decisions about their lives.
The interdisciplinary nature of the conference is intentional. We hope it advances the safe, ethical, effective, and context-based use of these methods.
