Romeo Lavia was forced off in the final minutes of the 1-1 draw with the Gunners, raising concerns over his fitness ahead of the international break in November. Last month, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca admitted he feared the 20-year-old midfielder could be injured.
Lavia struggled with a thigh injury last season, but has established himself as a key player under Maresca this season, breaking into the starting line-up. Lavia told RTL Info while on duty with Belgium:
“I had a little problem against Arsenal. We are testing it now to see if it is OK, but I think it is OK.”
Lavia has received rave reviews from football pundits this season, including former Tottenham player and manager Tim Sherwood. “For me, Romeo Lavia is going to be a top, top-class midfielder,” he said. “I think he’s incredible.
Every time he gets the ball, he just looks to see where Cole Palmer is and passes it to the right. When he drops in behind the midfield, he’s a rock in front of the defence. He’s young and he’s still improving, he’s going to be one of the top central midfielders.”
Lavia’s injury update eases Chelsea’s fears, with Frenchman Malo Gusto becoming the latest player to withdraw from international duty this month, following Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana.
