Fifth grade girls:
(The girls all answer their cell phones at the same time. Listen, nod and put them back in their pockets)
Narrator: As the girls talk with their mothers on the phone Scotty and Charlotte arrive a few minutes early for the dance lessons. They decide to observe their future students to see what they have staked their reputation on.
Girl 1: Who was that?
Girl 2: My mom.
Girl 1: What did she want?
Girl 2 She was reminding me of my schedule this afternoon.
Girl 1. Do you have much going on?
Girl 2. No! It’s my easy day. I don’t have much to do. At 3:00 I have Choir and 4:30 Soccer practice and from 6:00 – 8:00 ballet followed by tap.
Girl 1. Wow. That isn’t much. Why don’t you have your mom sign you up for some activities.
Girls: (sing)
Drop off, pick up
Drop off, pick up
She always thinks she knows what's good for us
Drop off, pick up
It's the fate of the modern mother
Drop off, pick up
What to wear and who to talk to
When to wake up, when to hang-up
The color of your socks and the style of your make-up
Drop off, pick upf
Drop off, pick up
She always thinks she knows what's best for us
Drop off, pick up
It's the fate of the modern mother
Drop off, pick up
But sometimes I see her wistfully
Wondering what might have been
If not for marriage and family
Drop off, pick up
Drop off, pick up
Can you imagine life before cellphones?
How could they plan it? How could they stand it?
A challenge so immense we can't understand it.
