Thirteen S.4 and S.5 students joined the Write! WeCan X SCMP English Writing Programme between March and August 2022. The programme provided an opportunity to nurture students’ interest in English and equip them with the essential skills in good writing, communication and research skills.
Students were excited about having lessons at the Headquarters of South China Morning Post and Zoom lessons. In addition to the joy of learning English, they were able to expand their vocabulary and phrases so as to develop different ideas for writing, language structure and format used for storytelling in public examinations. All cherished this learning experience and agreed that their writing and speaking abilities were greatly enhanced.
Student Reflections:
5A Henry Hui
During this writing programme, I have learnt a lot of lexical resources and sentence patterns which can be used to write a story. Moreover, it also gave me a chance to interact with a lecturer in English. It is a good way to broaden my horizons. This programme has inspired me that I should not be shy or afraid to interact with others in English.
5A Josephine Zhou
I have learnt how to be a professional reporter and create a great climax in a story. The programme taught me more methods to learn English and more occupations about English including reporters. I have also learnt that hard work pays off.
6A Joyce Ma
I have learnt a variety of writing structures along with advanced vocabulary and synonyms, which will be useful for my upcoming school exams and DSE. This programme has also inspired me to think critically.
