Taomi Ecological Village ( 桃米生態村 ) Depart at 8:20am on Jun 2
Located in Puli, Taomi Ecological Village boasts beautiful surroundings, with natural vistas of forests, rivers, and wetlands.
After the 921 earthquake, Taomi residents began ecological guiding work to promote their hometown’s natural ecology to more people. At the same time, the “Paper Dome”, a symbol of post-earthquake reconstruction, made its journey across the seas to the Taomi community.
Following the Great Hanshin Earthquake in Japan in 1995, architect Shigeru Ban built a paper tube church as a temporary gathering place for the collapsed Takatori Church. After fulfilling its mission, the Paper Dome traveled across the ocean to Taiwan, continuing its post-disaster mission of comforting and inspiring affected communities.
Taomi Village blends natural ecology with cultural arts. By visiting the Paper Dome and engaging in hands-on local farming experiences, one can feel the story of Taomi’s transformation into a green village.
