Aim and Objectives:

The main objective of this project, CulturaConnect, is to develop an innovative app that uses cultural data to CulturaConnect, is to develop an innovative app that uses cultural data to target international students and immigrants to learn slang in different cultural contexts through communication, collaboration and task completion. In an increasingly globalized world, effective communication is often hampered by cultural differences, leading to misunderstandings and inefficiencies in both personal and professional environments(Matthews and Thakker, 2012). CulturaConnect aims to bridge these cultural gaps by leveraging advanced data analytics and Al-driven tools to enhance digital communication and management practices, thereby facilitating more inclusive and effective cross-border interactions.

Cultural Content: Slang

CulturaConnect's cultural content consists primarily of slang. It is a form of linguistic expression, reflects the unique ways of thinking, habits and social contexts of different regions and cultures (Mattiello, 2008). The app contains not only definitions of slang, but also their historical background, usage scenarios, cultural stories and regional customs. This in-depth cultural content helps users to more fully understand how slang is used and what it means in different cultures. Slang doesn't always appear on its own, but rather in different features of the app along with other cultural content, such as: language etiquette, language evolution in cultural contexts, learning resources and tools, and practical applications and case studies. This cultural content will be incorporated into different features of the app, including daily challenges, daily learning, encyclopedias, and communication community.

Understanding language features is the foundation of effective communication, and CulturaConnect provides a detailed analysis of the characteristics of slang usage in different English-speaking regions (represented by the UK, US, and Australia) to help users identify and adapt to linguistic differences in different regions. In addition to providing literal information, the app also includes multifunctions such as listening, speaking and writing to help users deepen

their understanding and application of slang.

Who we serve:

CulturaConnect is a language and culture learning app designed for users of all ages. It helps:
• Teenagers (13-18) explore pop culture and slang.
• College students (18-25) improve language skills and social interactions.
• Professionals (25-40) communicate better in multicultural workplaces.
• Older adults understand modern slang and new cultures.

The app serves both native and non-native speakers, offering features for learning, entertainment, social interaction, and AI-assisted exploration. It has a user-friendly interface with customization options like avatar frames and expert badges.

Problems we need to solve:

1 How to Collect Slang Culture Data？

Comprejemsive data on slang in different cultures will be collected from various sources:

· Mainstream social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram.

·Online slang dictionaries and databases: Urban Dictionary

· Forums and discussion communities: Reddit, Quora

·Subtitles: From music, games, TV series and movies

· Literary works and screenplays: novels (especially modern literature), plays and films

· Lyrics and music platforms: Apple music, Spot ify, Youtube Music, Amazon music

· News and magazines: Entertainment News, Teen Magazine etc. ·Academic research and papers: on languages and linguistics

2 How to increase user engagement ?

To design feature 1: daily challenge

Completing daily slang tasks of 5-10 minutes in length related to combination of multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, and contextual application questions can help increase user engagement with app use.

To design user communication community

design and develop a functional module where users can publish posts, comments and likes, and support users to share learning experiences, interesting cases, ask questions or express insights on the platform to increase interactivity.

To conduct user requirement

User requirements are pushed from time to time, and users can complete surveys to help the design team improve the app's functionality.

3 How to refine UI pages for algorithmic applications?

CulturaConnect will be designed as a user-friendly app that seamlessly integrates with existing digital communication and management systems. The platform can be accessed through a variety of devices to ensure ease of use. To ensure operability, the app will be designed with four main functions: daily challenge, learn (search engine, slang encyclopedia and AI mentor system), explore (communication community), and me (personal profile). The app will be designed to prioritize ease of use, providing an intuitive interface and customizable settings to meet the specific needs of different users.
