Main Problem
"Bad sleep habits harming health and daily life."
App Features
[life patterns, sleep patterns & sleep solutions, user emotional response, design]
1. Sleep Habit Improvement Missions + Character Growth System
Users are given simple missions to help improve their sleep patterns. Completing these missions helps their in-app character grow and evolve.
Rather than enforcing rules, this system encourages voluntary participation, providing emotional rewards to promote consistent habit improvement.
(Users expressed a desire to address their sleep issues but were reluctant to adopt burdensome methods. This called for a system that motivates emotionally.)
2. Personalized Sleep-Inducing Comments
Based on sleep analysis, the character delivers messages of encouragement and comfort to the user.
Instead of commands, this feature emphasizes empathy and healing, creating an emotional bond with the user.
Examples: “You'll sleep better tonight!”, “I think it’s okay to head to bed now.”
(Users preferred emotional support over forced sleep induction. This aims to restore the value of sleep in today’s lifestyle, where rest is often sacrificed.)
3. Daily Sleep Recommendation Based on Previous Night's Sleep
The app analyzes your sleep duration from the previous night and suggests the optimal sleep time for the current day.
Example: 2 hours on Tue → Sleeping 8 hours on Wed can help restore balance!
(Instead of aiming for fixed sleep hours every day, the app helps users maintain their routines while recommending the most efficient way to recover based on daily fluctuations.)
4. Schedule-Based Sleep Timetable Recommendation
When users input deadlines or tasks, the app suggests a personalized sleep schedule that factors in available time.
This helps users manage their sleep even amid busy schedules.
Example: “If you finish this assignment by 11 PM, you can sleep 6 hours tonight!”
(Since external demands often dictate sleep patterns, the app takes on a role of a supportive guide, helping users balance their sleep within their daily routines.)
Sub-Problems (6)
1. Lack of Sleep
Issue: Insufficient sleep time leads to chronic fatigue and reduced concentration.
Causes:
Excessive work and academic stress (overtime culture, heavy academic workload)
Irregular lifestyle due to intensified social pressure and competition
Prolonged smartphone usage at night (SNS, video content consumption)
2. Decline in Sleep Quality
Issue: Even when sleeping, individuals fail to achieve deep sleep.
Causes:
Increased caffeine consumption (coffee, energy drinks)
Exposure to blue light at night (smartphones, computers)
Environmental factors (noise, lighting, bedding conditions)
3. Irregular Sleep Patterns
Issue: Irregular sleep rhythms due to inconsistent sleep schedules.
Causes:
Disruption of biological rhythms due to night shifts and rotating work schedules
Discrepancy between weekday and weekend sleep patterns (working excessively on weekdays and compensating with extra sleep on weekends)
Late-night meals and excessive food consumption before sleep
4. Insomnia Due to Stress and Anxiety
Issue: Psychological factors make it difficult to fall asleep or cause frequent awakenings.
Causes:
Economic concerns, job insecurity, academic stress
High societal expectations and pressure
Excessive nighttime smartphone and gaming use as a stress relief mechanism
5. Snoring and Sleep Apnea
Issue: Breathing issues interfere with restful sleep and cause chronic fatigue.
Causes:
Increased obesity rates leading to airway obstruction
Lack of awareness regarding the seriousness of snoring and sleep apnea
Alcohol consumption and smoking exacerbating sleep-related breathing disorders
6. Lack of Social Awareness About Sleep
Issue: Cultural disregard for the importance of sleep health.
Causes:
The mindset that "Sleep is for the weak"
Culture of sacrificing sleep for productivity
Emphasis on sleep duration rather than sleep quality
Solution
Encouraging periodic and voluntary participation, naturally improves sleep habits and motivation, and supports habit maintenance.
Project Purpose
