My 2025 Fund for Teachers Fellowship allowed me to participate in the two-week Regenerative Textiles workshop at the Kokrobitey Institute in Ghana. I had the opportunity to utilize the Institute's facilities for experimentation with textile waste and natural materials, and I went on several field experiences to see traditional artisans, contemporary art, and the world's largest secondhand market.
Led by Kokrobitey founder Reneé Neblett, textile artist and designer Bubu Ogisi, and weaving instructor Esi, the workshop gave me the chance to delve deeply into the possibilities of textile waste as an artistic medium and also exposed me to the vibrant artistic traditions in Ghana.
