The 2025 South Texas Scholastic Chess Championship will offer a variety of awards to recognize both individual and team excellence across all sections:
Individual Awards:
Top 15 Individual Trophies: Awarded in each section.
Honorable Mention Medals: Presented to individuals with positive scores who do not win a trophy. A positive score is defined as 4 points or more in a 7-round tournament.
Participation Medals: All participants who complete the tournament will receive a medal.
Team Awards:
Top 10 Team Trophies: Awarded to the top-performing teams in each section.
Teams consist of the top 4 finishers from each school or group.
In the event of identical team scores, tiebreaks will be applied to determine trophy winners.
Tiebreaks:
Tiebreaks will be used when multiple players or teams have identical scores. The following methods will be applied in this order:
Modified Median: Sum of the scores of a player’s opponents, discarding the highest and lowest.
Median: Sum of the scores of a player’s opponents, discarding the lowest.
Solkoff: Sum of the scores of a player’s opponents.
Sonneborn-Berger: A refinement of the Solkoff method.
Cumulative: Total of points scored after each round.
