Message For International Speech Contest Contestants
Hi Everyone,
As you are competing in the International contest, I wanted to mention more detail on the format of the contest so that we can keep everything running smoothly before the contest.
Please arrive early. The contestant briefing will be 30 minutes before the contest starts to ensure we can get the contest underway on time. Speaking order will be determined by ballot during this briefing.
The format for the International contest itself will be as follows:
The contest chair will call you to the front by introduced by announcing your name, speech title, speech title, name.
Each contestant must speak for a minimum of four minutes and 30 seconds and a maximum of seven minutes and 30 seconds or will be disqualified – lights will signal timing as follows:
Green = 5 Minutes, Yellow = 6 minutes, Red = 7 minutes
There will be one-minute silence between each evaluator for judges to compile their scores.
Judges will be evaluating on the below categories and weighting. Have a good read through and keep this in mind for your speech.
Content (50%)
Speech Development (15%) – Structure, Organization, Support Material
Effectiveness (10%) – Achievement of Purpose, Interest, Reception
Speech Value (25%) – Ideas, Logic, Original Thought
Delivery (30%)
Physical (10%) – Appearance, Body Language, Speaking Area
Voice (10%) – Flexibility, Volume
Manner (10%) – Directness, Assurance, Enthusiasm
Language (20%)
Appropriateness (10%) – To Speech Purpose And Audience
Correctness (10%) – Grammar, Pronunciation, Word Selection

Message For Table Topics Contest Contestants
Hi Everyone,
As you are competing in the Table Topics contest, I wanted to mention more detail on the format of the contest so that we can keep everything running smoothly before the contest.
Please arrive early. The contestant briefing will be 30 minutes before the contest starts to ensure we can get the contest underway on time. Speaking order will be determined by ballot during this briefing.
The format for the Table Topics contest will be as follows:
The contest chair will introduce the contest itself, purpose etc
All contestants will be asked to leave the room along with the Sergeant at Arms who will be supervising you. Please remember to keep the noise level to a whisper while you wait!
Contestants will be called back into the room one-by-one to perform their TT speech. You will be signalled by the Sgt @ arms when it is your turn.
You will enter the room during the one minute of silence where judges mark the ballots in between contestants. When you enter please wait at the back of the room.
At the end of the one-minute of silence, the contest chair will call you to the front introducing you by announcing your name, the topic, the topic, your name. Proceed immediately to the speaking position.
You will all receive the same topic, which will be of a general nature. The topic is selected by the contest chair. The topic will be of reasonable length, will not require a detailed knowledge, and will lead to an opinion or conclusion. You will receive no advanced knowledge of the topic until the moment you are introduced by the contest chair.
Remember when you take the stage, pause to compose your thoughts prior to speaking. In saying this, the rules state you should begin speaking within a short time after arriving at the speaking area to avoid unnecessary delay to the contest.
Timing will begin with your first definite verbal or nonverbal communication with the audience. Your Table Topic speech is the standard one minute to two minutes. You will be disqualified if the speech is less than one minute or more than two minutes 30 seconds – lights will signal timing as follows:
Green = 1 Minute, Orange = 1 minute 30 seconds, Red = 2 minutes.
Once you finish there will be one minute of silence for judges to mark their ballots.
At the conclusion of each speech, the next speaker will be invited into the room.
Note – you may not use digital or other devices during the contest to gain an unfair

Content (55%)
Speech Development (30%) is the way the speaker puts ideas together so the audience can understand them. The Table Topics™ response is structured around a purpose, and this structure must include an opening, body and conclusion. The response is supported by relevant examples and illustrations, facts and figures, if appropriate, and is delivered smoothly.
Effectiveness (25%) is your subjective judgement of how the response came across. Were you able to determine the speaker’s purpose? Did the speech relate directly to the given question or topic? Was the response clearly and logically presented?
Delivery (30%)
Physical presentation (15%) of the response carries part of the responsibility for effective communication. The speaker’s appearance should reinforce his or her response. Body language should support points through gestures, expressions and body positioning. The speaker makes effective use of and stays within the designated speaking area.
Voice (15%) is the sound that carries the message. It should be flexible, moving from one pitch level to another for emphasis, and should have a variety of rate and volume. A good voice can be clearly heard, and the words easily understood.
Language (15%)
Appropriateness (10%) of language refers to the choice of words that relate to the speech purpose and to the particular audience hearing the speech. Language should promote clear understanding of thoughts and should fit the occasion precisely.
Correctness (5%) of language ensures that attention will be directed toward what the speaker says, not how it is said. Proper use of grammar and correct pronunciation will show that the speaker is the master of the words being used

參賽者賽前通知
1. 請於時間到地點向人名報到後找比賽主席報到。
2. 參賽人員請穿著正式服裝,準時報到參加比賽主席的比賽規則解說,如果參賽者無法參加比賽規則解說,參賽者可以另外安排備案參賽者代替參與。如果直到比賽開始時主持人上台後,參賽者都還沒報到,那備案參賽者可成為正式參賽者上場參賽。
3. 報到完請向比賽主席領取參賽資格聲明,需填寫並簽完名後交給比賽主席備查。
4. 比賽主席會像參賽者說明演講區域範圍和上下台之路線、比賽時間限制、比賽流程等,之後會進行上台比賽順序之抽籤。
5. 指定演講比賽前,參賽者如需使用演講道具,應於比賽前向比賽主持人告知使用道具的種類,並向比賽主持人示範能夠在演講完成後從演講區域移除演講道具,而參賽者在演講結束後也必須馬上把演講道具帶離演講區域。即席問答比賽參賽者則被禁止於比賽中使用電子設備或會造成比賽不公的裝置或設備。
6. 請於比賽開始前確認白板上與投影資料內您的姓名與比賽順序都是正確資訊。如果有需要使用電子簡報資料,請於比賽開始前找多媒體控制員測試簡報投影的效果。
7. 比賽下午2點開始,比賽主持人會向全場宣佈參賽者可使用的演講區域範圍,比賽時間限制,並宣布參賽者比賽順序。在比賽主持人上台後才到場的參賽者其參賽資格就會被取消。
8. 會場備有講台,有線麥克風和無線麥克風。參賽者可自行決定是否使用上述設備,上台時請安靜的安排講台、麥克風和其他設備,準備好時就可開始演講。耳掛式無線麥克風之收音器,勿置於嘴巴之正前方(建議放在下巴下方或嘴巴兩側),避免吐氣聲影響演講品質。參賽者上台演講時,若遇麥克風故障,請繼續演講,並盡可能把演講聲量放大到全場可聽見。
9. 比賽主持人介紹參賽者上場時,指定演講比賽時僅宣佈「參賽者順序、參賽者姓名、演講題目,演講題目、參賽者順序、參賽者姓名」,即席問答比賽時僅宣佈「參賽者順序、參賽者姓名、問題,問題、參賽者順序、參賽者姓名」。
10. 參賽者請上台站定後再開始演講,若要行進間就開始演講亦不限制。
11. 參賽者上台後,請直接開始演講,不需問候裁判、主持人、現場觀眾....等任何問候語。
12. 參賽者上台後參賽者有明顯動作和發出聲音後,計時員就會開始計時。比賽前請務必確認計時員所在位置。計時器如果於參賽者的演講中出問題,參賽者將被給予額外的30秒演講時間。
13.指定演講比賽時間限制為5-7分鐘。計時員在5-6分鐘時會舉綠色板, 6-7分鐘時舉黃色板, 7分鐘後會舉紅色板,看到紅色板時請盡快進行結語,紅色板會被顯示到演講結束。指定演講少於4分30秒或超過7分30秒就會因為逾時而被取消參賽資格。
14. 即席問答比賽時間限制為1-2分鐘。計時員在1-1分30秒分鐘時會舉綠色板,1分30秒-2分鐘舉黃色板,2分鐘後時會舉紅色板,看到紅色板時請盡快進行結語,紅色板會被顯示到演講結束。演講少於1分鐘或超過2分30秒就會因為逾時而被取消參賽資格。
15. 請參賽者勿在演講中提及同個比賽的其他參賽者演講內容,以避免造成原創性爭議而造成被取消比賽資格之情形。
16. 每位參賽者演講完畢,比賽主持人會宣佈「全場靜默一分鐘」以利裁判評分。
17 最後一位參賽者演講完畢,比賽主持人會宣佈「全場靜默、請勿走動」以利裁判評分與計分員做所有分數統計。
18. 比賽期間只有工作人員可以進行照相與攝影,場內禁止任何干擾聲音及動作。
19. 評分裁判及參賽者可就“比賽資格”和“原創性”兩個項目進行抗議,但必須在宣佈優勝者及候補人之前,向裁判長或比賽主席提出。比賽主席可因比賽資格不符取消參賽者資格。原創性受質疑的參賽者應給與機會向評分裁判說明,評分裁判的多數決定是否取消參賽者資格。比賽主席應在比賽會議宣佈散會之前對被取消參賽資格的參賽者告知其資格被取消。
