Sonja Karlson (Chairperson) lives in Vancouver, B.C. with her husband, daughter and nibling. She has taught Elementary music for 23 years, most of which were in the Burnaby School District. Sonja is an Orff Specialist and she received her Masters in Arts Education through SFU. She is currently serving on the Carl Orff Canada mentorship committee. She was treasurer and president of the B.C. Orff Chapter and served on that board for 13 years.
Batya Levy (Treasurer) is an Orff specialist who has been teaching music with the Toronto District School Board (in Ontario), since 1993. Batya also loves numbers, and is currently treasurer for the Ontario Orff Chapter, Carl Orff Canada and Constellation 2024. Batya has served on the Ontario Orff Chapter Executive in a variety of roles since 1999, (including publicity, webmaster, VP, and President), and is a former archivist for the National Orff Board, in addition to being their current treasurer. Batya was co-chair for the 2018 Orff Conference, and was also treasurer for the past two conferences that took place in Ontario (in 2006 and 2018).
Amy Johnston (Scheduling, Clinicians, Provincial Board Liaison) has been active on the BC Orff Board for the last thirteen years. She teaches Music in the Surrey School District where she is involved with the mentorship program.
Catherine Raap (Clinicians, Opening Ceremonies) has taught elementary music in the Burnaby school district since 2001. She was active on the BC Orff Chapter Executive from 2001-2011 serving in various roles including Vice President and President. She took her Orff levels with David Asplund, Joe Berarducci, Susie Green and Shirley Murray in Seattle and Calgary. She lives in Richmond, BC with her husband and two daughters.
Elizabeth McFarlane (Instruments, Wellness) has been teaching in North Vancouver for 24 years, both as a classroom teacher and music teacher. She is thrilled to be part of the Steering Committee for Constellation 2024. This will be the second National Conference that she has attended. She has completed Intro to Orff, Level I, Level III, and hopes to soon complete Level II! She currently teaches music and dance (K - Gr. 7) at Braemar Elementary School, and is a recipient of the Gunild Keetman Scholarship.
Ravena Berar (Instruments) has taught Music and Fine Arts in the Burnaby school district (SD41 in British Columbia) over the past 21 years. “Co-creating with children through the arts is a precious, nurturing gift for the soul!” Ravena lives with her husband Deenu and son Jhelum in Vancouver.
Martha Leigh (Entertainment, Opening Ceremonies) has been teaching elementary music since 1991 and retired from New Westminster School District in June 2023. She completed her Orff 3 in 1995 at the University of British Columbia. She served on the BC Orff Chapter Executive for many years including the role of President in 2002. This is her 3rd time serving on the committee for the Carl Orff Canada National Conference.
Amanda Randt (Registration) is a mom of 2 sweet and boisterous young boys, a Music teacher, ukulele player, singer, and Orff enthusiast. After taking Orff Level 1 in 2016, Amanda has been incorporating the Schulwerk into her daily teaching and home life with her children remembering to “experience first, then intellectualize” (Carl Orff).
Ruby Seah (Venue) started her teaching career in high school English, but soon fell in love with elementary music after her first Orff course 6 years ago. She went on to complete Orff Level II, Kodaly Level I, and various workshops and conferences along the way. She currently teaches music and beginner band at Brentwood Park Elementary School in Burnaby. She also teaches piano in her home studio and plays in FAT Jazz big band. She enjoys escape rooms and board games with her family, but also alone time with a book.
Glenn deVerteuil (Venue) has been teaching Orff to grades K-7 for the Vancouver School Board for over 25 years (in the same school)! He caught the "Orff bug" while taking his Level courses with Joe Beraducci. He is an active singer in the community and frequently appears as a member of the chorus with Vancouver Opera.
Marysia Bulanowski (Social Media) currently teaches K-7 music with the Burnaby School District. She has her B.Mus and B.Ed from Queen’s University and her M.Mus from the University of Western Ontario. Marysia moved to BC in 2017 and joined the BC Orff board during her first workshop. She currently runs the website and social media accounts for the BC Orff Chapter and is part of the social media and publicity team for Constellation 2024. When Marysia isn’t teaching, she is away travelling, hiking or playing her ukulele!
Nancy Wood (Volunteer Coordinator) is an elementary school music teacher in the North Vancouver School District. When not teaching, she enjoys hiking, swimming, baking, and playing the recorder.
Jethro Wall (Student Performing Groups) has taught elementary music in the Burnaby School district for 4 years. He took his first levels course this past summer and is eager to continue growing as a young music teacher. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, playing guitar, and learning Mandarin.
Carolann Fraenkel (Print Materials) is a retired North Vancouver teacher and grandmother of 3. She has a long history with the BC Orff Chapter including serving as co-chair of re-Play 2012.
Esther Kwok (Fundraising) has teaching in the Burnaby School District for almost 20 years. She completed her Orff-Schulwerk Master Class in 1995 under the instruction of Jos Wuytack at the University of Alberta. She and her husband enjoy visiting their three grown children whenever possible.
Susan Kiddie (Silent Auction) gained her BMus and MMus in Musicology from the University of Auckland in NZ and her Dip.Tchg. from Christchurch Teachers’ Training College in Christchurch in NZ. She taught secondary school Music in Auckland, NZ for 5 years and has been teaching elementary Music in Coquitlam School District for 22 years; she presently teaches at Nestor Elementary School. Susan has Level 3 Orff and Level 1 Kodaly. She is a singer (ARCT), pianist (LTCL), violinist and choral specialist. Susan has been a professional soprano church soloist for over 30 years at St Andrews Wesley United Church and Spirit of Life Lutheran Church and has sung in elite choirs, such as NZ National Youth Choir and Vancouver Cantata Singers. She has produced 2 CDs, Memories of Prague, and Dreams and Songs of Love. Susan is an avid Music advocate and is currently President of the CMTA, Vice President of the Kodaly Society of BC, a Director on the BC Choral Federation board and the Chair of Fundraising on the Steering Committee for the Carl Orff Canada Constellation National Conference 2024. She runs a busy private piano studio at home, teaching both group piano lessons (Music For Young Children) and private piano lessons.
