FOUNDER'S STORY

Jonny Shannon is a International Tech entrepreneur & Motivational Speaker based in Sydney, Australia. He grew up in South Auckland, New Zealand and found school extremely difficult, having undiagnosed dyslexia and other disabilities which led him to failing all his subjects and being bullied.

After overreacting too many times, Jonny was finally expelled for fighting too much & not showing up to school. It wasn’t until his last school that a counsellor took him aside to work through some of the key issues he was facing. The difference for Jonny was from “night to day”. He quickly turned his academic performance around and focused on his emotional well being. Surprised in the difference seeing a counsellor made, he committed to doing youth work to help other students like him in the future.

SUMMIT FAQ'S

What is the Youth Wellbeing Success Summit?

The YWSS connects school communities [students & teachers, parents by info share] to wellbeing resources. It is a one day event, from 8:30am to 2:30pm where students will meet and interact with wellbeing service providers. Activities include keynote speakers, various interactive workshops, and Speed Wellbeing Networking.

How is the Youth Wellbeing Success Summit different from a regular wellbeing expo?

The traditional expo event is a great way to meet people and service providers. The YWSS goes beyond the traditional approach as students and teachers are immersed in a day of forming connections and networking with a range of wellbeing service providers. Students will receive skills and resources to improve the wellbeing outcomes within their school's community.

The event includes a student and teacher "Speed Wellbeing Networking" session, where service providers speak with the participants in small, focused groups for up to ten minutes each, the service providers discuss strategies to overcome challenges in key areas of life that affect young people's wellbeing. Through this, students will discover skills such as intervention strategies to reduce stress, anxiety, and uncertainty about the future and knowledge about professional support networks to overcome challenges.

The aim of the Youth Wellbeing Success Summit is for students to walk away with confidence, skills, knowledge and resources to help themselves and their school's community to improve overall wellbeing. The Summit encourages schools to bring their student leaders who can share the information they gained with their peers and families.

Who should attend?

The Summit is targeted at Years 9, 10 & 11 students. If you would like to bring students from years 7, 8 and/or 12, please contact us with numbers.

We recommend bringing students who take on leadership roles, influencers amongst their peers, or students that will benefit greatly from the summit agenda.

Is lunch provided? Can dietary requirements be met?

Lunch will be provided to all registered students and teachers. Basic dietary requirements will be met such as Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free.

Attendees with any allergies or other dietary requirements will need to bring their own lunch.

Is transport provided?

No

Schools must organise and pay for their own transport to and from the venue. In the unlikely event you are unable to arrange transport please contact SWC.

Which schools are attending?

SWC works with all High Schools in Region E, (Fairfield, Liverpool and parts of Cumberland City Councils) including NSW DoE, Sydney Catholic Schools and Independent Schools. Please contact us if your school is outside our region.

Why is the YWSS valued at $125 per person?

This amount covers the cost of the venue hire, catering, resource booklets, hiring guest speakers, service providers and more to ensure the event runs safely and smoothly, and the students get the most out of their day. The event has been subsidised by SWC and other providers.

How many students & teachers can I bring?

The event has a capacity of 500 students. Each school is to nominate the number of students they would like to bring to the event when booking (SWC will do our best to accommodate, however, schools may be capped due to high demand). The number of teachers you can bring will depend on your school's excursion policy for teacher-to-student ratios.

How much will it cost?

The YWSS is valued at $125 per person, however, SWC is providing this event FREE of charge for High Schools in Fairfield & Liverpool area who have registered. For updates on registrations go to swcevents.com.au

Please note a $100 refundable* deposit [minus $7-$15 booking fee] is required upon booking.

What resources will be provided?

Teachers: SWC will provide permission notes and risk assessment plan templates, information packs, and networking packs.

Students: will receive FREE subscriptions to gamified content taught by Australia’s top experts, and interactive career resources, general resources and information booklets during the day. Additionally, registered students will be eligible to receive the 2023 Laptop Prize!

Will the service providers come to my school?

There will be up to 30 available service providers to connect with who may be interested in coming to schools and delivering programs. Please feel free to talk and connect with them throughout the event. Additionally SWC will facilitate an information share post event for those who are interested.

When will the school get the deposit back?

The deposit is to ensure that SWC can plan the event according to numbers for catering and break out sessions/rotations purposes.

After your school attends the event, you will be refunded the deposit minus the (approx.) $7-$15 booking fee. The $100 deposit is not refundable if (1) your school does not show up at the event, or (2) your school cancels the booking within 14 days before the event date. The $100 deposit fee minus the $7-$15 booking fee will be refunded onto the same card you used to pay the initial deposit. Please ensure that your card expiry is valid until 11/23.
