Embracing Agri-Culture: A Journey of Discovery in Taiwan

The 10-day trip to Taiwan, embarked on by USU students, was a transformative journey. This adventure served as a unique educational platform, broadening the students' horizons, deepening their understanding of agriculture's impact on culture and economy, and fostering international connections. The exploration of an organic farm, collaborative learning about agro-ecotourism with NCHU students, and the immersive experience in Huisun forest were profound highlights. These experiences illuminated the pivotal role of agriculture in shaping culinary traditions, driving the local economy, and attracting tourism.


Simultaneously, navigating the nuances of language and culture led the students to deeply value the essence of friendship and community. They relied on their newfound international and American friends, creating bonds that transcended borders and language barriers.


The journey was a blend of learning, cultural immersion, and personal growth. Memorable meals showcasing the richness of Taiwanese cuisine, rejuvenating massages, and lively interactions with local students all contributed to a captivating and enriching journey. "One bite that’s all!" became the trip's motto, encouraging the students to embrace new experiences with open minds.


This Taiwanese adventure reaffirmed the belief among USU students that travel is indeed a powerful educator. It instills confidence, sparks curiosity, and creates invaluable memories. The anticipation of one day returning to continue this adventure remains, a testament to the unforgettable experiences had in Taiwan. This journey served as a reminder of the enriching revelations that arise when venturing into the unknown.



Students also embarked on a day of cultural immersion and natural beauty, exploring Taiwan's captivating gems. They marveled at the intricate architecture and spiritual aura of Wen-Wu Temple, savored the vibrant atmosphere of Ita Thao Old Street's bustling marketplace, and reveled in a tranquil ferry ride across the breathtaking Sun Moon Lake. Each experience left an indelible mark, celebrating the richness of Taiwanese culture and the awe-inspiring beauty of the country's landscapes.


One of the destinations, Wu-Feng Rice Farm, provided a serene connection to the land and the farmers' labor. Students gained a deep appreciation for the intricate process of rice cultivation. Exquisite flavors awaited them at the Black Shoulder Kite Restaurant, showcasing local ingredients. The Wufeng Lin's family mansion further highlighted the transformative power of nature and the importance of cultural preservation.


On May 8th, Climate Science major L.C., along with other USU students and their accompanying professor, Simon Wang, visited the Department of Atmospheric Science at National Central University in Northern Taiwan. This visit was in preparation for L.C.'s prospective exchange program. The NCU faculty gave our students a warm welcome, and the resident students there provided a comprehensive tour.
