President and founding principal of Garza Karhoff Engineering, LLC (GKE), Brenda Garza Karhoff, S.E., P.E., has nearly 30 years of engineering experience. Founded in 2008, GKE is a 100% Hispanic woman-owned engineering firm that provides structural and civil engineering consulting services as well as construction management and project management services in the aviation, building, rail and transportation sectors for clients including CDA, CDOT, CTA, IDOT and the Illinois Tollway.
From humble beginnings, Ms. Karhoff has grown GKE to a staff of nearly 20 employees, 14 of whom are engineers. She is proud to be an example of what women and girls can achieve. Ms. Karhoff began her career interning at IDOT District 5 and spent many years working as Structural Engineer for a variety of infrastructure and building projects and served as Vice President of a Chicago-based engineering firm before founding GKE. She is a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) and Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) graduate of the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and a licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois and a licensed Professional Engineer in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Ms. Karhoff currently serves as a member of the Board for the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA) and a member of American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL) and the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI).
