1989年10月的德國要變天了，但只有她仍不知道……

亞利的媽媽是東德優秀的社會主義份子，她相信「共產黨能讓世界更美好」。但在目賭亞利參與反政府的集會中被捕，媽媽嚇得心臟病發陷入昏迷。當她在八個月後醒來，心臟極為脆弱，禁不起任何驚嚇。亞利非常頭痛，要是媽媽知道柏林圍牆倒了、世界變天了，那她肯定活不了……亞利唯有翻出共產時代的窗簾，逼迫姊姊穿上舊衣，把家裡的時間停格在過去，讓母親以為她的世界從未改變。亞利的「美麗謊言」能夠維持多久呢？

這部在2003年柏林影展被選為「最佳歐洲電影」的溫馨喜劇，透過兩代人在見證東西德統一的當下，透視小人物在政局社會改變下的複雜心理。

Residing in East Berlin in 1989, Christiane firmly believes that socialism could change the world for the better, but his son Alex gets arrested in an anti-government rally that demands the fall of the Berlin Wall. Having learnt of the news, Christiane gets a heart attack and falls into a coma. After Alex has returned home while his mother is unconscious, the Wall falls and capitalism arrives. Because the doctor warns of the possible lethal consequence of stimulating Christiane, Alex and his cohorts mobilise their imagination to reconstruct a world around Christiane to make her believe that the GDR still exists.
