Vounteer Opportunities
All types of skills are required to provide free tax services at over 17 AARP Tax-Aide locations in Montgomery County.
Here are some of the positions that are available:
Tax Counselors - Great opportunity for those who are detail-oriented and like to interact with people. Classes are held in January and you work with an experienced Mentor. Required: good computer skills, competent keyboard skills, very good communication skills, willingness to listen patiently and with interest in what the client is saying in sometimes stressful situations.
Client Facilitator - If you like dealing with people and administrative activities, this position is perfect for you. You work at the tax site and greet incoming clients. You are responsible for checking-in the clients and ensuring that they have the information needed to process their taxes.
Scheduler - If you are looking for flexibility and the ability to work from home, this is the ideal position for you. It involves answering incoming client calls to schedule a tax appointment and reviewing what the client needs to bring to their appointment. Good communication skills, the ability to follow a script and answer questions, patience, and a friendly demeanor are required.
Tech and Computer Support - If you have computer and network experience, we are looking for you. With over 100 tax counselors spread across the County, there is a constant need for tech support. A working knowledge of personal computers (Chromebooks), WiFi, printers, scanners, and troubleshooting are required. Must be available to travel around the County to the various tax sites.
Second Language Skills - We have an urgent need for anyone with second language skills to work as either a Tax Counselor, Client Facilitator or Scheduler. Spanish is especially helpful.
