The Michigan Good Food Charter is seeking amazing leaders like you to join our efforts to update the Charter!

Beginning in 2021 we will launch three committees to help us complete the MI Good Food Charter update process. Learn more below and nominate yourself or others!

Michigan Good Food Charter Coordinating Committee

Help us decide how we work together.

This committee will make recommendations for how the "organizing body" of the updated Michigan Good Food Charter should function.

Who should join?

Process People!

If you love to think about how a group of people can make something happen, then plan it out as part of a team and put it into action, this is the committee for you!

We are looking for both people with experience and people looking to gain experience.

How will we do it?

Examine models and draw on our own experience to explore and recommend:

  • Shared values

  • Governance structure

  • Decision-making models

  • Principles for inclusive, democratic collaboration

Work with Engagement Committee to gather feedback from stakeholders on values

Present & Adopt framework at 2021 Good Food Summit

What will we produce?

A recommended framework for the Michigan Good Food Charter “organizing body” to carry out our work, including:

  • Shared values

  • Governance structure

  • Decision-making models

  • Principles for inclusive, democratic collaboration

Michigan Good Food Charter Shared measurment Committee

Help measure and share progress toward our collective vision.

  • Track & communicate progress toward shared goals

  • Catalyze informed action

  • Enable collaboration & coordination

  • Improve data quality

Who should join?

We’re looking for people who understand how important data can be to tell the story, shed light on gaps and inform decision-making.

Whether data collection and management is part of your work or your passion (or both!) we invite you to join the committee!

We welcome students, learners and professionals alike!

How will we do it?

Complete the selection of indicators process, including:

  • Headline Indicators

  • Secondary Indicators

  • Data Development Plan

  • Data Sharing Pan

Collaborate with other committees as needed

Present measurement framework at 2021 Good Food Summit

What will we produce?

A framework for the Michigan Good Food Charter to measure and share progress towards goals over time, including:

  • Indicators of Progress for each Charter Priority Area

  • 2020 Baseline Report

  • Data Development and sharing plan

  • Any recommendations for action/advocacy around data quality, availability, collection, transparency, etc.

Michigan Good Food Charter Engagement Committee

Help identify the strategies to achieve our shared vision.

To collaboratively determine key policy and program strategies that move each priority area forward and help us ultimately achieve our vision for Michigan Food Systems.

Who should join?

We are looking for people to help us reach across:

  • Sectors

  • Michigan’s geography

  • Networks and organizations

We hope to engage ( as members and/or in dialogue):

  • Food Councils

  • Farmers and Food Producers

  • Food/Farm networks, orgs and businesses

  • Planners

  • Funders

  • Public Health and Healthcare

  • Youth

And more!

How will we do it?

Grassroots & inclusive engagement strategies (virtual gatherings, surveys, storytelling, other strategies) through which we will identify:

  • What strategies already exist that work?

  • What strategies exist that could be better and how?

  • What strategies do not yet exist?

This committee will also organize the 2021 Michigan Good Food Summit!

What will we produce?

A summary of existing or potential strategies that advance a good food system in Michigan, including priority:

  • Policies

  • Programs

  • Partnerships

  • Infrastructures

The summary may include:

  • Strategic/Action plan

  • Policy/advocacy platform

  • New relationships

  • Shared Values

  • COVID-19 Strategies & Lessons Learned
