MS. CHELSEA PETTIFORD

DANCER & CHOREOGRAPHER

Ms. Chelsea Pettiford is a native of Greensboro, NC, and a 2020 graduate of Alabama State University (ASU). She received a full four-year academic and dance scholarship to attend ASU. Having a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance degree, Ms. Pettiford has studied under some of the best professional dance artists including: James Atkinson, Lindsay Renea Benton, Jerome Stigler, Michael Medcalf, and the late Kavin Grant. Some of her most notable performances include: Dancing the role of "Clara" in The Atomba Nutcracker Freshman, the National College Dance Festival, and the American College Association Dance Association held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. She also choreographed a ballet piece for the 80th Coronation of Miss Alabama State University in 2019. Chelsea has participated in several stage performances selected by guest artists for Alabama State University's Annual Fall and Spring Dance Concerts such as Regina Metayer, Anthony Burrell (Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and Philidanco), TereLyn Jones (Dancer-Performer, Aerialist, Actress, Instructor and Choreographer Atlanta Georgia), and Lawrence Jackson (Associate Professor at University of Alabama). Participating in the Annual International Conference and Festival of Blacks in Dance (IABD) has afforded Ms. Pettiford the opportunity to receive a number of invites and scholarships from various prominent dance companies to broaden her dance training by participating in the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Summer Intensive Program in Denver, CO (2018), as well as the Dissonance Dance Theatre in Washington, D.C. (2019). Chelsea is currently in a licensure program at the University of North Carolina Greensboro to become certified to teach dance.
