The Asia Pacific Workshops bring together PhD students and early-career faculty from across East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the United States for an intensive program of networking, mentoring, and research discussion. The workshops aim to advance high-quality scholarship from the region and promote scholarly exchange and collaboration.

2020 Workshop at a Glance
The 2020 Asia Workshop on "Contentious Politics and its Repercussions in Asia" is hosted by Korea University and City University of Hong Kong. Co-leaders Teri Caraway (University of Minnesota), Edmund Cheng (City University of Hong Kong), Jai-Kwan Jung (Korea University), Teresa Wright (California State University, Long Beach) have prepared a dynamic program of topical lectures, research panels, professional development seminars. Together, workshop attendees will examine the conditions under which popular contention erupts and evolves, shapes political institutions, produces political changes, or solidifies the status quo.
The first part of the workshop will be held as a virtual program in January 2021. Date, location and further information on the second part of the workshop will be announced as soon as possible. We expect the workshop to be held in Seoul sometime in spring/summer 2021. APSA staff and workshop co-leaders continue to monitor guidance from the CDC, WHO and local authorities in planning this event.
Following their participation in the workshop, fellows will be granted complimentary membership to the American Political Science Association and will be eligible to apply for small research grants to support further research and professional development.
